Chasing History: Washington Can Still Catch Rashaun, Rudolph Closing in on Big 12 All-Time Top 5
A dinged up James Washington fell short on production in Ames last weekend, as he caught just one pass for 25 yards and no touchdowns — his lowest output since he was limited to 22 yards against Kansas last season.
Washington played the role of a decoy against the Cyclones as he recovers from an apparent ankle injury, but he’s still nearing Rashaun Woods’ all-time receiving yards record of 4,414. He’s 333 yards away with 3 (maaaaaybe 4?!) games to go, meaning he needs to average 111 yards per game moving forward.
“Poor James,” Gundy said of 28. “They put a guy on him. They put another guy over the top. They put another guy halfway. They just move all three of them around all the time so everybody has to catch passes or you have to run the ball. It worked for 523 yards for us. James gets to go out there and line up and hang out. When you’re the best receiver in the country, that’s what you’re going to get.”
Here’s what maybe the best receiver in school history has done in 48 career games.
WR | Receiving Yards | Receiving TDs |
---|---|---|
Rashaun Woods | 4,414 | 42 |
James Washington | 4,081 | 35 |
Justin Blackmon | 3,564 | 40 |
Hart Lee Dykes | 3,510 | 31 |
D’Juan Woods | 2,751 | 20 |
Dez Bryant | 2,425 | 29 |
As for QB1, Rudolph quarterbacked his 20th career 300 yard passing game against Iowa State. He finished 25 of 31 passing with 376 yards a flawless 3 TD to zero INT ratio, putting him 10 touchdown tosses ahead of Weeden in the OSU record books and 3,000 yards ahead, too.
QB | Pass Yards | Pass TDs |
---|---|---|
Mason Rudolph | 12,404 | 85 |
Brandon Weeden | 9,260 | 75 |
Mike Gundy | 8,473 | 57 |
Zac Robinson | 8,317 | 66 |
Josh Fields | 6,090 | 55 |
With just 25 passing yards this weekend, Rudolph can pass … Kliff Kingsbury for 27th on the list of FBS career passing yards leaders. He can also catch Kingsbury for No. 6 on the all-time Big 12 list as well as Chase Daniel for No. 5 with a decent shot at surpassing Colt McCoy for No. 4 by the end of the year.
