Chris Lacy Has Career Game That Helps Push OSU Past Tech

It took Chris Lacy just four catches to have a career game. The junior showed up big in Oklahoma State’s dramatic one-point victory on senior night against Texas Tech.

Talk about efficiency

There were five balls thrown Lacy’s way. He caught the last four for a combined 100 yards. His first three catches were all in the first quarter, for 78 yards.

His first catch went for 33 yards (22 after the catch) and got the Cowboys moving on a drive that ended with a Mason Rudolph 9-yard TD run to put OSU up 14-0.

Later in the first quarter, Rudolph called Lacy’s number twice in a row. First he went for 13 yards on first down and then followed it up with another 30-plus yard sideline explosion.

Lacy’s last play went for 22 yards and led to a Chris Carson 19-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Efficiency has been Lacy’s M.O. all year. Against West Virginia, Lacy had three catches for 31 yards and two touchdowns. In that homecoming effort, he book-ended Mike Gundy’s 100th win with the Cowboys’ first touchdown and another one late to give OSU a two-score lead, essentially sealing the victory over the No. 10-ranked Mountaineers.

Lacy’s other catch in that game? A 19-yard drive-saving play on 3rd and eight. Two of his three best games in terms of yards have come this season. Throw in the Texas, KSU, Baylor and WVU games, and Lacy is putting together a pretty great season for a fourth option at WR.

Another cool note. Lacy was instrumental in another significant win for Gundy. OSU has now won eight straight against Texas Tech. That’s the longest streak against any Big 12 school. It doesn’t seem right, does it?

But even when he wasn’t getting targets, Lacy finds a way to keep himself on the field by doing the dirty work.

It pays to be efficient and to wear your hard hat when you’re in the middle of a deep pool of wide-receiver talent such as Oklahoma State’s. Lacy is fourth in receiving yards at 360 behind James Washington, Jalen McCleskey and Jhajuan Seales.

“We just took what they gave us,” said Lacy on Saturday. “Whenever they were playing back, we took the underneath routes and whenever they came up, we went over their head. We have a very explosive offense. We had a few turnovers but we were able to rally back and get the win.”

With Seales carrying a rose Saturday for senior night and the possibility of James Washington playing Sundays in 2017 if he is so inclined, look for Lacy’s role to increase moving forward and into next year.
