Chris Olivier Could Become Viable Scoring Threat Down Low
The 91-57 blowout over UT-Martin Friday night may not be the best gauge to measure how the season will go, but there were certainly some solid performances across the board that should be encouraging for fans moving forward this season. None more encouraging than newcomer and graduate transfer forward Chris Olivier.
The Cowboys desperately need someone who can provide a scoring option down low after losing the production of Le’Bryan Nash, and Olivier showed last night he can be a spark in the post. He went for 14 points on 7-of-8 shooting, and 5 rebounds in just 18 minutes on the court.
“Coach, coming into halftime just said, ‘Throw the ball down in the post;’ the guys just got me going,” Olivier told the O’Colly. “The guards did a good job; Phil, Jawun (Evans), Tyree (Griffin) were getting me the ball.”
Olivier didn’t start the game, as Mitch Solomon got the starting nod and finished with 7 points, 4 rebounds and a block. But Olivier could be a viable option for the Cowboys to come off the bench, and his value as a scoring threat could be huge if he can continue efficient performances like Friday as the season moves forward.
