Chuba Hubbard has done enough over the last two years to prove his worth to the Carolina Panthers, and now that hard work has paid off.

Hubbard agreed to a four-year contract extension worth a $33.2 million, with a chance to make an additional $5 million in incentives, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Hubbard was drafted by the Panthers in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft and quickly showed flashes of the speed and playmaking ability he showcased at Oklahoma State. Then, when Pro Bowl running back Christian McCaffrey was dealt to the San Francisco 49ers, Hubbard worked to become the franchise’s RB1.

After breaking out for 902 yards and five touchdowns last season, Hubbard has followed that up with step forward. Through nine games, he ranks fifth in the NFL with 665 yards and is in the Top 10 in yards per carry, rush attempts and total touches.

This news breaks just two days after the NFL trade deadline. Hubbard is fresh off of a two-touchdown performance — the Panthers’ final two scores — in a win over the New Orleans Saints.

Hubbard joined the Cowboys as a four-star recruit in the 2017 class. He redshirted in 2017 before playing three seasons at OSU. He ran for 3,459 yards and 33 touchdowns in his college career. That included leading the nation in rushing in 2019 — a year in which he totaled 2,094 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. He ranks eighth on OSU’s career rushing yards and career rushing touchdowns lists.
