Chuba Hubbard Gathers All-American Honors Across the Board
Chuba is OSU’s sixth running back to become a consensus All-American.
Chuba Hubbard’s put up a regular season for the books, recording the most rushing yards in the nation (1,963) and the most of any Oklahoma State running back ever not named Barry Sanders.
Last week, Chuba was named to the Walter Camp All-American but that was just the beginning of his award bonanza. Here are the organizations and outlets that have No. 30 on their A-team.
Update: With The Sporting News tabbing Chuba a first-team selection on Tuesday, Chuba has become just the sixth Cowboy running back to be a consensus All-American. He joins Bob Fenimore (1945), Terry Miller (1977), Thurman Thomas (1985), Barry Sanders (1988) and Kendall Hunter (2010).
USA Today
The folks over at USA Today did not include Chuba on their first team, instead opting for Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins and Clemson’s Travis Etienne.
Here’s the logic for that.
Dobbins (1,829 rushing yards) was at his best down the stretch as he keyed OSU wins against Penn State, Michigan and Wisconsin. Etienne (1,500 yards, 8.2 ypc) was the nation’s most productive per-play back and had just six carries in the fourth quarter all season due to Clemson’s dominant regular season. [USA Today]
Chuba and Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor were on the USA Today All-American second team.

Chuba Hubbard and Jonathan Taylor are first-team selections at running back.
CBS Sports
Chuba was one of seven unanimous picks for the CBS Sports All-American team, sharing first-team RB duties with Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins. Yes, that’s right. Doak Walker Award winner Jonathan Taylor was a second-team honoree and, no offense to Taylor, I wish a few CBS writers had voted for that award.
The Athletic
For as good as they do it over there, I think I have to take umbrage with The Athletic’s AA criteria. The website had both J.K. Dobbins and Jonathan Taylor on its All-America first team with Chuba making the second team.
Pro Football Focus
The PFF crew apparently was bent on distinguishing itself from the PFB crew. I can think of no other reason that it had the nation’s top rusher as a third-team selection while having to slots open for RB. That’s correct Pro Football Focus liked at least four RBs better than Chuba.
First team: Travis Etienne, Clemson |Â Zack Moss, Utah
Second team: J.K. Dobbins, Ohio State | Jonathan Taylor, Wisconsin
Third team: Clyde Edwards-Helaire, LSU | Chuba Hubbard, Oklahoma State
ESPN, Bleacher Report and Sports Illustrated each only listed one All-American team, but Chuba found his way onto each of them.
The Canadian-born Hubbard showed this season he’s a lot more than just a track star playing football. The 6-foot-1, 207-pound redshirt sophomore was the FBS leader in rushing yards (1,936), rushing yards per game (161.3), 200-yard rushing games (four) and all-purpose yards per game (180.1). Hubbard led all FBS running backs with seven plays of 50 yards or longer from scrimmage and scored 21 touchdowns. [ESPN]
Hubbard enters the postseason with a nation-leading 1,936 rushing yards as well as 21 touchdowns. At every 10-yard interval 20 or higher, no player has recorded more explosive runs than him. [B/R]
Hubbard has quietly been one of the best players in the country this season, an explosive rusher who has racked up 1,936 yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground. Averaging 161.33 rush yards per game, he’s a big reason why the Cowboys had a top-35 scoring offense. [SI]
Chuba is the first OSU running back to earn All-America honors since Kendall Hunter in 2010. Here’s a list of all the Cowboys to receive All-American honors since 2008 courtesy of OSU.
