Cowboy Wrestling: Update on Jonce Blaylock’s Injury

Published

on

In the Bedlam dual this year the Cowboys completely dominated OU 31-6. They did take one big loss though and it wasn’t on the scoreboard.

At 157 pounds Jonce Blaylock limped his way to a 7-2 loss after suffering an injury early in the match. The Cowboys lost their starter for the rest of the season after a pretty solid junior year where he took out a number of ranked guys and looked to be on his way to qualify for the NCAA tournament.

I have confirmed that he was cleared mid way through June and has been working out full speed since with no real issues related to the injury.

On the surface it looks like the starting job at 157 will be a battle between Jonce and incoming transfer Andrew Shomers. Joe Smith by all indications will be going up in weight and this spot will be up to these guys to fight for. Shomers won the head to head last year. I don’t expect Blaylock to just roll over and give up the spot though. He’ll fight for it. It will be interesting to see how the competition plays out.
