The Cowboys were expected to drop after a loss, but they fell all the way out of the poll
Oklahoma State is now unranked after falling to Houston on the road Saturday night. The Cowboys are the first team out of the Top 25 receiving 128 votes.
The Cowboys dropped out of the US LBM Coaches Poll, from No. 20 all the way out of the Top 25. OSU is the second team out, receiving 87 votes.
Here’s a look at the complete ranking.

Elsewhere in the Big 12
Other than the Cowboys, the rest of the ranked Big 12 teams came out on top this weekend.
BYU took Notre Dame’s place at No. 2, moving up from No. 8, after toppling the Irish. Texas Tech climbed from No. 10 to 8 after stomping Arizona State 53-25. Utah is up one spot to 10 after escaping Boulder with a close victory against a two-win Colorado team.
Even Arizona climbed up three spots to sneak in at No. 25 whilst on a bye week.
Some Fuzzy Logic
I’m not going to say I was initially shocked that the Pokes dropped out of the poll. But falling what is essentially seven spots after a road loss to a team now deemed No. 14 seems a little excessive. But, hey they have two losses now so I can’t see a huge gripe.
What I might take exception with — if I were a Cowboy with stakes in the ranking — is the mental gymnastics that had to have taken place to prop up the SEC.
Texas is 1-2 in conference play and is still considered the No. 19 team in the country.
UT lost to an unranked Florida team a week after losing to an unranked Oklahoma team (also 1-2 in the SEC). The Longhorns did drop 12 spots this week, but I’m curious how many touchdowns they’ll need to lose by to Ole Miss to fall out of the ranking.
To bolster that fuzzy logic, Florida, who received only nine votes a week ago, skyrocketed 12 spots to get back in the ranking at No. 20 (just behind Texas). They must be that good. They beat the No. 19 team in the country.
Georgia dropped all the way down to… oh wait. The Bulldogs are still No. 5 after losing to unranked Auburn. I half expected the Tigers to climb into the rankings as well.
It seems strange to say this, but I can at least see why Alabama, also now with two conferences losses, only dropped to 13. At least their two losses were to ranked opponents.
Of course, none of this really matters and I have no issue with a two-loss Oklahoma State not being ranked. It just illustrates some of the baked-in biases that surround the sport. Also, the CFP committee comes out with its initial ranking on Nov. 3. So we’ll have one more ranking for everyone to argue about in a couple of weeks.
