Cowboys Limping into Iowa State Game

After two weeks of conference play for the Cowboys, they find themselves limping into their contest this weekend against Iowa State with several key players banged up through just five games. Here’s an update, from the limited detail given out by Mike Gundy’s program, of the players and their injury status.

James Washington – Wide Receiver

Washington took a big hit last weekend against Texas and according to some reports was unconscious for a brief moment. Even though the hit looked awful, Gundy surprisingly said after the game that Washington was fine and was held out by the medical staff as a precaution and that he would practice on Sunday. All signs point to his return on Saturday. “I’m pretty sure he is going to go this week,” Mason Rudolph told Scout. “I know he will be practicing this week and I think he’s progressed from Saturday.”

Jordan Burton – Star Linebacker

The All-Big 12 versatile linebacker exited stage left early on Saturday and did not return with what may be considered a minor injury. Mike Gundy says he is “probable” for Saturday, and he is listed at No. 1 on OSU’s depth chart for Saturday, likely signaling his return is imminent.

Jarrell Owens – Defensive End

The starting defensive end missed Saturday’s game with an undisclosed injury. Gundy said in the postgame that he was borderline available, and it appears he will also return on Saturday after sitting out this past week against UT.

Chris Carson – Running back

Carson has missed several consecutive games after suffering a hand injury earlier in the season. Mike Gundy updated his status on Monday, and said he will likely return in two weeks when the Pokes travel to face the Jayhawks in Lawrence.

Marcell Ateman – Wide Receiver

Ateman still has not taken a snap this season after suffering a foot injury in the preseason. He’s set to be examined again this week according to a report from Scout, and the rumor is that he could return as early as the Kansas game in two weeks. If not, it seems that a redshirt, which is still available for him, could be a serious option.

Jordan Brailford – Defensive End

Slated as a starter headed into the season, Brailford has not played a snap this season after suffering an apparent leg injury just before the season. His status remains questionable moving forward, and he’s already likely ruled out this weekend after not appearing on the depth chart. Whatever the injury, it seems to be something that could keep him out for the remainder of the year, with a possibility of a medical redshirt in play.
