The Cowboys are still on the lookout for heirs to Ollie Gordon’s Doak Walker throne, but they’ve got a dynamic candidate in their sights.

Karson Cox, a touted 2025 running back from California, announced an Oklahoma State offer via his X account on Monday.

Cox hails from Oak Hills High School in Hesperia, California, where he rushed for 1,349 yards and 19 touchdowns at just over 10 yards per carry. But he’s not just a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Cox recorded 23 total tackles and three sacks as a defensive back, as well, per Max Preps. He’s also a track star. He’s recorded a 11.22 in the 100 meter and 22.93 in the 200 meter.

That combination of skill, athleticism and versatility has a lot of schools already interested in Cox. Before the Cowboys came calling, he already enjoyed an offer sheet in the double digits highlighted by household names and bluebloods like USC, Oregon, Washington, Cal, Utah and several others.

Cox is a four-star prospect, according to 247Sports Composite rankings and On3, with the latter tabbing him as the No. 9 running back in the country and the No. 11 prospect from California.

The Cowboys have just one commitment for the 2025 cycle in three-star Idabel athlete Matrail Lopez. And with Ollie Gordon’s path likely leading to the NFL after this upcoming season, a player like Cox would be a boon for OSU’s efforts to replace him.

Take a peek at Cox’s junior season highlights.
