A huge win for the Cowgirls in enemy territory.

The unbeaten Cowgirls went into a top 10 team’s stadium and left still unbeaten.

The Oklahoma State soccer team beat Penn State 2-1 in overtime Thursday night in Happy Valley, knocking off the country’s No. 6 team.

In the second overtime period, Kim Rodriguez got on the end of a Jaci Jones corner kick and headed home a game-winner. Rodriguez was the team’s leader in assists entering Thursday’s game (and still is), but the defender hadn’t scored a goal this season until that big moment.

Penn State jumped out to an early lead in the 23rd minute when the Nittany Lions scored a header off a corner of their own. But the Cowgirls answered in the 34th minute when a Rodriguez free kick ended in a Jones goal.

Jones has scored a team-best six goals in the Cowgirls first six games. A senior from Mustang, Jones made her 56th career start Wednesday.

There was a question as to who was going to score goals for this season’s OSU squad with Marlo Zoller and Haley Woodard having graduated. Jones scored 11 goals in her first three seasons on campus, but already has more than half that career total this season.

OSU is 5-0-1 this year with the lone draw coming against Oklahoma in Norman. The Cowgirls will return home to Neal Patterson Stadium at 1 p.m. Sunday when they host Omaha.
