Cowgirls Pick Up a Pair of Top 10 Wins in Second Day of Clearwater Invitational
Rosie Davis had a huge day.
If you were worried about the Cowgirls’ 4-3 start, perhaps Friday soothed your nerves.
No. 23 Oklahoma State beat two Top 10 opponents in their second day at the Clearwater Invitational, first beating No. 8 Texas A&M 9-8 in the morning before besting No. 7 UCLA 4-3 in the afternoon.
The wins push OSU to 6-3 on the season. Here are quick recaps of each contest.
OSU 9, Texas A&M 8
The Cowgirls faced a pair of former Cowgirls on Friday morning, with Tallen Edwards and Micaela Wark both transferring to A&M this offseason.
OSU jumped on the Aggies early, scoring five runs in the top of the first. With the bases loaded and two outs, Rosie Davis pulled a double down the left-field line, clearing the bases. It was the start of a pretty big day for the junior third baseman.

Melina Wilkison kept the rally going with an infield single that moved Davis to third. Wilkison then stole second before sophomore Jayden Jones doubled to score the two baserunners.
The Cowgirls’ lead moved to 6-0 in the second off a Davis sacrifice fly that scored Tia Warsop before the Aggies got one back.
Wark singled to start the bottom of the second and later scored. She went 1-for-4 with the run scored against her former team.
The Cowgirls added another run in the top of the third before the Aggies got right back into the ballgame. A&M plated five in the bottom of the third, a frame that included a three-run home run and an Edwards RBI single. Edwards went 1-for-4 with with that RBI.
The end of that frame was the end of ace Ruby Meylan’s outing, throwing the three innings and allowing six runs (one unearned) on seven hits while striking out five.
OSU held a 7-6 lead until the sixth when the Cowgirls played two more on back-to-back solo home runs.
First, it was junior first baseman Karli Godwin.

But A&M answered, scoring two runs to make it 9-8 going into the seventh.
OSU went down in order in the top of the inning before RyLee Crandall sat the Aggies down in order to secure the big win.
It was an impressive outing from Crandall. She threw four innings, giving up the two runs on four hits while striking out two. She got some help from some impressive defensive plays, like freshman Jayelle Austin making a leaping grab against the wall in the bottom of the fifth.

OSU 4, UCLA 3
This one went to extras, where teams are permitted to put a runner on second base to start the frame.
Bouncing back from a rough morning appearance, Meylan recorded three strikeouts in the top of the eighth. She threw the final three innings of this game, giving up one run off three hits while striking out six.
With Libby Jaques on second to start the bottom of the eighth, the Bruins intentionally walked Davis because she had been an RBI machine all day. Schneidmiller then reached on a fielder’s choice, as the Bruins threw out the lead runner on a bunt.
Amanda Hasler loaded the bases with an infield single, bringing up Jayden Jones, who smoked a grounder to the left of the second baseman, allowing Davis to beat the throw home.

That run ended a six inning scoring drought for the Cowgirls, as they scored all three of their other runs in the first inning. Guess who? Davis, three-run shot to left.

Across the two games on Friday, Davis was 3-for-6 with three runs scored and seven RBIs. Extra important numbers given OSU played in two games decided by a total of two runs.
Preslee Downing, a freshman from Owasso, got the start in the circle for the Cowgirls. She threw 1 2/3 innings, giving up a run off three hits.
Crandall then came in for the next 3 1/3, putting in another solid performance. She gave up a run on one hit (a solo home run in the third) before giving the ball to Meylan.
