Daily Bullets (Apr. 8): Cowboys Added a Grad Transfer Over the Weekend

Published

on

I’m not a Texas Tech fan (really ever) but pulling for the Red Raiders tonight to win the title for the Big 12. This is what college sports should be: shutting down the library early to encourage watching the game.

Bullets Rundown

• HoF process seems to be working inappropriately
• Looking at the new grad transfer on the defensive line
• Pokes drop game three to the Mounaineers

Scores

• BB: West Virginia 4, OSU 2
• MT: Baylor 7, OSU 0
• WT: OSU 7. OU 0

• Looking more closely at the Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement process and the Eddie Sutton case just keeps becoming more confounding.

The process begins with a nomination and Sutton had to go through the North American screening committee, which consists of nine voting members. For consideration to finalist status, Sutton received at least seven of nine votes.

Passage through the screening committee doesn’t automatically qualify a candidate as a finalist. The Hall’s Board of Trustees determines if a potential finalist has damaged the integrity of the game of basketball. If so, the nominee will be deemed not worthy of enshrinement and moved from consideration.

Sutton passed that hurdle but didn’t gain the 75% of votes needed (18 of 24) to enter the Hall. [TulsaWorld]

So he keeps making it through the process to keep yahoos out but six-years running isn’t meeting standards implied to be on merit?

We can all move on if it’s nonsense red tape that keeps Eddie from consideration but the fact that he keeps making it through that step is perplexing.

• As you observe the newest OSU Football player Kyle Junior’s stat sheet, Ragusa reminds us to make an important distinction when looking at his stats.

Now, some of this is due to the fact that he was the best defensive lineman on this Falcon squad and teams keyed on him. Since Bowling Green doesn’t have elite talent, when Power 5-level teams took Junior out of the equation, other D-linemen weren’t able to take advantage and make plays. [PFB]

Put Junior on the field with some other quality players and he may be able to do more.

Cowboy Baseball dropped a home series to West Virginia, dropping Sunday’s game after tieing up the series at 1-1 on Saturday.

With the bases loaded, two outs and a full count, the Oklahoma State baseball team needed a strike.

Logan Gragg reared back and threw. He missed wide and walked TJ Lake, bringing the go-ahead run across the plate for West Virginia. The Mountaineers went on to defeat the Cowboys 4-2 Sunday afternoon at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium. [O’Colly]

Coach Holliday went on to note that you’re just waiting to lose when you can’t expand on a one-run lead. The Pokes led 2-1 through a good chunk of the game.

Marcus Smart went down with a hip injury last night – of course he was blocking out a seven-foot 260-pound center. Really enjoyed the Boston accents on the tweet included in the article.

• Enjoyed this piece on Payne County native calling the NCG tonight – from a class of 30 to calling the national championship game.

• Arkansas hired the Nevada basketball coach – his results at a lesser program are tough to argue but it seems like there’d be some culture shock. With that being said, most OSU fans are enjoying a guy from Brooklyn as the basketball coach.
