Daily Bullets
Daily Bullets (Christmas Eve 2017)
Merry Christmas Eve, all. I’m traveling today, and we will be super light over the next two days because stop reading about sports and spend time with your families and friends! We’ll pick it back up on Tuesday with Camping World preview pieces and churn out a fun week of #content to end 2017.
Senior Sendoff
Glenn Spencer recently had the following conversation with Vili Leveni.
“He knows he’s not the old Vili,” Spencer said of the senior defensive end who had been a rock on the coach’s front line throughout his career. “I just looked at him and said, ‘Are you giving us all you got?’
“I knew the answer. I just wanted to make him say it.”
Leveni responded with a simple “Yes, sir.”
“Then who am I to ever question you when all you’ve done is your best?” Spencer said. [NewsOK]
I think sometimes it becomes easy to forget how human the players we all root for are and how hard the game is on their bodies.
Pokes Playing (Relatively) Well
As Kendrick Marshall points out, this nonconference schedule could have been a disaster for OSU, but instead they went 10-2.
Mike Boynton somehow — through all the drama and uncertainty surrounding the basketball program — kept the group together.
And it showed on the court with the Cowboys going 10-2 in the midst of a relatively challenging time.
“I’m proud of them for their focus and their commitment to doing the things that I’ve tried to preach from day one, which is being a really tough and defensive-minded team,” Boynton said. “To be very unselfish and to really, really have some focus on what we’re doing and not necessarily peripheral. It could have been really easy for this team to be distracted after what happened the last two months.” [Tulsa World]
The Big 12, though, oh my.
This league is ridiculous. NCAA-best 101-16 record (.863) with 8 teams either ranked or receiving votes. Buckle up, folks. #Big12MBB pic.twitter.com/sLwdpIchrc

OSU And NCAA Notes
Tech lost to UAB on Saturday … Josh Rosen won’t play the Cactus Bowl (see below) … Floyd Mayweather says he’ll play Kobe for $1M (would watch!) … Spencer wins Texas AP POY … Key matchups from Orlando ($).
Today UCLA QB Josh Rosen said he would look at the NFL after the bowl game and when asked about what makes him want to play in the @Cactus_Bowl when other high profile players have skipped bowl games… he had this great answer. #UCLA #CactusBowl pic.twitter.com/fArs2leCix

This was awesome.
One of the most important things that Jawun Evans has already is PG instincts. As a rookie, he's making reads and deliveries that aren't as easy as they look.
Check his chemistry with DJ Here, finding him as he runs the floor w/a slick bounce pass: Perfect timing. In stride. pic.twitter.com/rNp0CiOOMd

Complete and utter insanity in the game Spencer Sanders was supposed to play in.

Other Stuff I’m Reading
- I finished Klosterman’s X and The Hopefuls last week. X was great, The Hopefuls was fun and good but not great.
- My buddy Kevin Van Valkenburg is an awesome writer, and he recently talked to Don Van Natta about his #process as well as his journey. Awesome listen.
- Speaking of pods, Tim Urban with Kevin Rose. Fully subscribed.
- The most economically powerful thing you can do is to buy something for your own enjoyment that also improves the world. This has always been the value proposition of journalism and art. It’s a nonexclusive good that’s best enjoyed nonexclusively. (Kottke)
