Remembering the Ten

In what was an absolutely fantastic piece by Mark Cooper, OSU associate AD Chad Weiberg spoke poignantly about losing his brother Jared and processing life after.

“In some ways it feels like not that long ago, in other ways it feels like sort of a lifetime ago,” Chad said. “Still, I think part of that is it’s just still hard to believe it actually would happen. Coming to grips with the reality and the finality of it all.” [TulsaWorld]

The OSU community processed the aftermath in various degrees – family and close friends like the Weibergs obviously with greater difficulty – but the shared bond of love for Oklahoma State leads to a shared burden.

Knowing Knowles

As GoPokes continues to tout that Duke’s Jim Knowles is the leader in the clubhouse for the DC job, let’s get to know the guy.

(Knowles) is used to coaching defense in a program that has a heavier reputation on offense as Duke does under Cutcliffe, the quarterback coach to the Mannings, at least Peyton and Eli. As a result Knowles has had to fight issues like struggling to find enough defensive tackles, an issue that all but the blue bloods of the South like Alabama, LSU, and Auburn suffer with.

“Duke has never had depth there,” Knowles said of the defensive tackle position a couple of years ago. “That’s huge.”

As a result, you will notice his defense gives up more yards rushing than you might like to see, but does a better, much better than average job stopping passing attacks in this day of the spread and they do spread it out in the ACC too. He prides himself on giving his defensive personnel the confidence to overachieve what most predictors expect out of the Blue Devils defense. [247 Sports]

Two things I hear: he’s used to trying to play defense across the practice field from a prolific offense and there may be a significant improvement in his run game numbers if he can find some defensive linemen. For Knowles’ sake, working with Joe Bob Clements may be quite a win with the talent he brings in.

OSU and NCAA Notes

Neat piece on Kyle Keller remembering the Ten….Five worst bets to take for the Heisman….Clemson AD knows Bama is coming for Dabo….Former Cowboy Alex Noren leads going into the final day at Torrey Pines….Tavarius Shine is out indefinitely

A Boynton trait that can’t be overstated.

40 seconds (minus ten) of Hell.

Awesome stuff.

Big guy got position.

Cowgirls bounced back against Tech.

I’m not sure Tom Izzo understands how being investigated works.
