OSU Bullets

• Here’s why Rickie Fowler could win his first green jacket next week.

Why he’ll win: Because last year was the first time he really did it. Did he win? No, but it was the type of close that wins events. Not all top-five finishes are created equally, and Fowler knows this. I’m still not sure I trust him if he’s up, say, two on Rory and Dustin Johnson going into a Sunday (see below), but I at least know that he knows he has the stuff that he needs to deliver late on a Sunday at Augusta National.  [CBS Sports]

Having the confidence, knowing you’ve done it before – finishing well and putting yourself in contention – has to be an exercise in building confidence. Let’s see if Rickie has a little magic left in him or if he used it all last year.

• In honor of the egregious snubbing of Eddie Sutton, take a trip down memory lane and enjoy why what Eddie Sutton did was special.

On this disappointing day, it’s best to think of the salad days of OSU basketball. When a long-slumbering program rose from the ashes and became one of our state’s greatest success stories.

Big Eight and Big 12 championships. Two Final Fours. Routine trips deep into the NCAA Tournament, including that very first team that indeed shook off an NIT mentality and made the Sweet 16.

And oh, what Sutton did to Gallagher-Iba Arena. It’s easy to think of the refurbished GIA as the house that Sutton built. But no. Gallagher-Iba was remodeled in 1987 into the beloved gymnasium we all remember, yet not until Sutton’s arrival in spring 1990 did the 6,381-seat bandbox become the nation’s rowdiest arena. [NewsOK]

• If you were making guesses at who will replace Tyron Johnson in 2019, a solid place to start would be Braydon Johnson.

Asked who his team’s fastest player was, OSU coach Mike Gundy first tossed out the name of sophomore receiver Braydon Johnson before coming around to former Canadian track star Chuba Hubbard.

Ultimately, Gundy settled on Johnson as the favorite in a 40-yard race, and Hubbard in the 100.

Regardless, Johnson has the type of speed the Cowboys would like to get on the field more. [NewsOK]

•  Cowboy baseball (and college baseball) legend Pete Incaviglia will be back signing autographs this weekend.

• Congrats to Texas on winning the NIT.

• NCAA is looking at crippling the graduate transfer policy
