Heisman Targets
Interesting angle to Mason’s Heisman campaign.
Let me tell you folks who are on the fence about the name Rudolph when talking about the Heisman trophy: while every college football fan in America may know the name James Washington when talking about the Oklahoma State wide receivers, there is more than meets the eye with this group.
Just take a look at who Rudolph will be throwing the ball to next season and you will quickly see why this idea of “Rudolph for Heisman” isn’t so crazy after all. [Heartland College Sports]
The Heisman generally feels like the best player on the best team or the surprising team that made it into the CFB playoff (or whoever Alabama has at running back). But one of the best indicators is their direct supporting cast – does Baker make it to NY without Westbrook or a stable of backs? Johnny Football without (Tampa Bay Bucaneer) Mike Evans? Sam Bradford without Demarco Murray and tackle Trent Williams?
It can’t be understated that a large part of considering Mason as a candidate is because of his insane array of weapons, four seniors on the offensive line and a freshman All-American running back.
Quick Ends
GoPokes offers some insight on the new commit‘s game.
Lacy is an athletic defensive end with sub 4.8 speed for a big frame. Last season at Sachse, he had 34 total tackles, but 6.0 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks. Physically, he matches up what Oklahoma State looks for and usually winds up with at the defensive end position.
OSU tends to go for the lighter and more athletic defensive end prospects. He also has scholarship offers from Arkansas State, Colorado State, UConn, SMU, Houston, North Texas, and Texas Tech among others. He is also being recruited by TCU and Texas. [GoPokes $$$]
At 6’4″, 238 pounds there’s plenty of frame to build on. The Pokes do love those long, underweight ends with explosiveness. Add the training table and Rob Glass and these guys have a shot at playing some high level Big 12 football.
OSU and NCAA Notes
Cowgirl Tennis’ comeback fell short in the Big 12 championship….The amount of scrutiny Dede Westbrook received was surprising (when do Jags become risk averse?)….The Big 12 didn’t shine at the NFL draft….Florida State coach trolled Jim Harbaugh ….As the world turns in Waco….Recruiting changes now rubber stamped by the NCAA
Not a lot of spotlight for the Pokes in this draft but sounds like the next one should be a little more exciting.
Time for my first 2018 NFL Draft prediction: Mason Rudolph will be the first QB picked in next year's draft.
