The unlikeliest of titles

It’s still amazing to me that OSU is the Big 12 champ.

Complete pandemonium. The best way to describe the scene on the field after the Cowboys clinched the Big 12 Championship would be complete pandemonium. But the best type of pandemonium. It was the happiest the team and the coaching staff has looked all season long. And if you look back throughout the season, there hasn’t been much to be happy about. Heck, you could look back to last week’s sweep of the Sooners in Bedlam as the high point of the season, and the Cowboys needed it to happen to even make it to the Big 12 Tournament. [Go Pokes — $]

It wasn’t that a mediocre team win the Big 12. It was that a team that couldn’t even hang with ORU went undefeated through one of the best conference tournaments in the nation.

“These kids took the initiative to continue to fight instead of rolling over and dying, (said Josh Holliday). “These guys did OSU baseball a good service. They represented their university, our fanbase, our school tradition, and I just appreciate all of their efforts. We hung in there all year long, and we were pretty much kicked to the curb as far as having any chance here in Oklahoma City.” [Go Pokes — $]

It really does provide so much momentum not only for the NCAAs but also for 2018 and beyond. And a rallying cry of sorts for future squads.

Friday Night Lights?

The Big 12 title game is going to may be played on … a Friday?

A couple weeks ago, when Big 12 leaders gathered in Phoenix for the conference’s spring meetings, league commissioner Bob Bowlsby told Chuck Carlton of The Dallas Morning News that many details about the game still need to be worked out. The payout. The time. And yes, the date. The Big 12 title game could be Friday or Saturday. [NewsOK]

Fine by me. You don’t want to jam the least popular conference’s title game into Saturday going up against the SEC and Big 10. Heck, play it on Thursday or Sunday to avoid other conferences altogether.

Weeden talks Houston

Great interview here with BW on the state of the Houston QB situation.

“You guys know me well enough – I’m a team-first guy,” he said. “I told Deshaun on day one, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask them. Bounce your ideas off me. I don’t know it all, but I’d love to help any way I can. We have an outstanding (quarterback) room. All three of us get along really well. We’ve all got each other’s backs. We’re here to help each other. No beefs between us. We’re pulling in the same direction.

“It’s fun to come to work every day right now. A lot of people lose track of that. If you dread coming to the building because things aren’t good, it can be tough.” [Houston Chronicle]

I could listen to Weeden talk about sports for hours.

OSU and NCAA News

OSU is 6th in the NCAAs after three rounds (top eight advance), and we could get Bedlam in the match play portion of the festivities … The Cowboy faithful showed up in droves on Sunday and helped the Pokes to a W … On the greatness of Josh Holliday’s coaching/parenting.

Dizzy doing Dizzy.

Yes.

I died.

Chris Rock on his new tour is excellent … I always presume everyone who wants to has already listened, but this Bill Simmons pod with Aziz Ansari is fabulous … Better (not necessarily more) is better.
