OSU Bullets

• True or false – the Pokes should not bench Spencer Sanders. FYI: Pokes are not benching him.

(Sanders’) highest highs far exceed any quarterback on the roster, he just needs to excise the low lows, which are coming infrequently but nonetheless at inopportune times. I don’t think there’s any discussion within OSU’s walls that he’ll be benched.

It’s sort of a bizarre spot – Chuba fumbles a couple of times and rides pine (against West Virginia, right?) but Sanders is part of three turnovers and is… safe.

I get it, LD Brown is a more than able replacement but it’s just an interesting dynamic. I’m team ride-it-out with Sanders but if we have many more UT 2020/Texas Tech 2019 games…

• It’s tough to think about but man, that OSU defense played so well on Saturday.

That’s all because of OSU’s defense. Texas isn’t an offensive juggernaut, but the Longhorns do routinely crank out a big chunk of points and yards. They do have Ehlinger, the grizzled veteran who has beaten Southern Cal and Georgia and Oklahoma over his long career. And the Cowboys neutralized him.

Texas had only one legitimate touchdown drive all game, a 75-yard journey midway through the first half. Otherwise, UT reached the end zone only with massive help. Turnovers. Roughing the punter. Overtime.

One legitimate touchdown drive!

• Cade Cunningham is on the point-guard-of-the-year watchlist

• Leave it to the Pokes, one advanced stats measure (SP+) did not have them falling at all after Saturday’s loss. Here’s why:

One team that didn’t fall? Oklahoma State. The Cowboys fell victim to perhaps the most statistically unlikely loss of 2020 on Saturday, outgaining Texas by 243 yards, generating 15 more first downs and enjoying a success rate advantage of 46%-31%.

• Totally agree with this – there were some really nice, open looks on Saturday.
