Daily Bullets
Daily Bullets (Oct 2) – Cowboy Back Answer Previously on the Roster, Closing the Book on KU
Personal note: I’m headed out of town for a week of vacation with Mrs. Bullets – many, many thanks to the Kyles for covering for me while I’m gone (and a special shoutout to Grandmas for watching the kiddos). Beat the Cyclones and I’ll see y’all next week.
In-House Solution
You know what the Cowboy offense could use right now? A dynamic Cowboy Back who can block and catch passes. You know who’s doing a great job at just that? A grad transfer tight end who left Stillwater for his last season.
TIGHT END: KEENEN BROWN, TEXAS STATE 90.1
Coming into the season, Brown had only played 198 snaps over the last two years at Oklahoma State, but the grad-transfer has broken out as one of the nation’s best playmakers on his new team. He ranks third among tight ends with 19 receptions and he leads the way with 176 yards after the catch per reception (9.3 YAC/reception). Brown’s after-the-catch work has dwarfed all other tight ends as he’s forced nine missed tackles as the next closest tight end only has four. He’s also been more than just a receiver as he’s posted a strong 74.9 grade as a run-blocker, fifth-best in the country. [ProFootballFocus]
There you have it, sometimes what you’re looking for was under your nose the whole time.
Rocked the Jayhawk
Before the book is closed on the KU win, there was a poignant take on the win worth sharing.
So, what to make of this win overall?
Look, I’m not sure. This is no signature win, not by a longshot. But the Cowboys needed to win and did so, comfortably. That’s what good teams do. And they did so amid the adversity of the McCleskey saga and mounting injuries. Neither Stoner nor Bundage played and word broke before the game that defensive tackle Darrion Daniels will miss the remainder of the season with a finger issue.
OSU won in its first road trip of the season.
So there’s plenty of good to go around. But plenty of questions, too, with bigger games coming up. [GoPokes]
Outside of coming off a loss, there weren’t a whole lot of reasons to play inspired football in Lawrence on Saturday. The short-handed Pokes who have struggled in Lawrence from time to time did no such thing in 2018.

Baylor news (sanctions?) on the way.
The Fort Worth Star Telegram reports that Baylor has received an NCAA Notice of Allegations, which includes a lack of institutional control charge, relating to the Art Briles era. https://t.co/jeov0g6mtV

When Carson dropped a line about Brailford competing for Big 12 DPoY, it seemed like hyperbole. But the numbers are starting to make sense.
