Remember the Spencer

Glenn Spencer had made a name for himself near the Alamo.

Six years after OSU defeated Arizona in the 2010 Alamo Bowl, 36-10, the Cowboys are back to provide what Spencer hopes will be yet another boost to its profile in a now bountiful recruiting ground. “Our reputation down there is pretty good,” Spencer said. “That’s big to me. My name and my word. You treat people right and you treat these kids right, and all of the sudden, we’re a household name down there in San Antonio.” [NewsOK]

Rudolph to the NFL?

I don’t think there is any chance, but …

Will Rudolph, a junior, try to take advantage of an uncertain QB crop by heading to the NFL early? A big game against Colorado’s outstanding secondary, led by future NFLer Chidobe Awuzie, could tip the scales. Rudolph has a strong, if at times erratic, arm and he doesn’t hesitate to give his receivers shots on contested balls. [SI]

I just think No. 2 enjoys Stillwater too much to eject from what could be an epic senior season.

Tyreek Scored Again

Freek now has 10 TDs which is more than all but six OSU players ever in the NFL. Ever.

Against the Raiders, the anticipation of him running with the ball manifested itself in the spectacle of thousands of fans at Arrowhead Stadium chanting, “Ty-reek, Ty-reek, Ty-reek,”as he waited for a punt that he promptly returned 78 yards for a touchdown. You could go to decades of NFL games and never see such a personalized chant before a play … let alone the ensuing result.

This X-factor, both in their offense and on special team, gives the Chiefs an entirely new dimension in a 10-3 season that continues on Sunday against Tennessee with legitimate visions of a deep postseason run. If he continues at his current pace, Hill surely will become a candidate for NFL rookie of the year — which would provide yet more to process about his visibility even as he pays his debt to society during his suspended sentence. [Kansas City Star]

I am very confused about how to feel about any of this, but just for posterity this is why we still cover Hill.

Sinor4Heisman

Is Zach Sinor frustrated he wasn’t nominated for the Ray Guy? Of course he is!

Touchbacks, which are almost always a negative and a yardage loss for the team, need to be kept to a minimum and Sinor has one this season, and it landed inside the 5-yard line and escaped two Cowboy players trying to down it. You could say it wasn’t any fault of Sinor’s. If there was a punting efficiency rating, and I think there should be, Sinor would be very, very high if not on top.

“It is frustrating when you look at it,” Sinor said when asked if he gets frustrated over being left off the finals of awards like the Ray Guy Award. “I see these guys have bigger averages than I do, but average is not doing the most for your team, field position is doing the most for your team. What can you do?” [Go Pokes]

Who cares about awards, though. Dude is one of the best in the business, and I’m glad he plays for Oklahoma State.

Oklahoma State is, uh, great at rebounding now

This might be the most remarkable part of OSU’s turnaround this season: Through 11 games, Oklahoma State is a top-10 offensive rebounding team. The Cowboys had 17 offensive rebounds in the 93-76 win over Wichita State and now rank fifth nationally in offensive rebounding percentage, per KenPom.com. [Tulsa World]

That is staggering. It’s also one of the best and easiest ways to win college basketball games.

Brad Underwood, ladies and gentlemen

“One of the things I truly enjoy about being a college basketball coach is coming into the other team’s venue and winning, and the hush of 15,000,” Underwood said. “That hush … it’s awesome. That’s one of the things I truly enjoy.” [NewsOK]

How mad is Kansas State that they didn’t land this guy?

This is terrific. More combining Ramon and Leyton!

Good look at all the awards OSU players piled up this season.

Great postgame speech from Brad Underwood in Wichita … Trae Young insists OSU is a serious contender (color me dubious) … Despite Forte’s struggles from 3, OSU has been shooting it well.
