Sooners roll

Good for the Big 12, I suppose, but man is OU going to be a monster next year.

Offensive coordinator Lincoln Riley was cooking, calling a great game with Baker Mayfield playing general for the Sooners’ high-octane attack. Mayfield was his usually-efficient self, throwing for 296 yards and two touchdowns on 19-of-28 passing, adding 34 rushing yards. [CBS Sports]

It really was a banner postseason for the much-maligned Big 12.

Kiffykins

Tom Herman and Kirby Smart had no problem winning national championships the past two seasons with one foot out the door for jobs at Houston and Georgia. Kiffin managed to damage his reputation even more while on his way to FAU. Think of how self-destructive a person must be to get fired so close to trying to win back-to-back national titles. [CBS Sports]

Lane is just the best (and I mean worst).

OSU return men

No team is going to return a large percentage of kicks for touchdowns, but great returners are able to combine speed and agility necessary to break open a long return that electrifies a home crowd or silences an opposing one. It can happen on any return. It just doesn’t seem to be happening as frequently for the Cowboys as we may have been used to. [CRFF]

OSU finished No. 22 in punt return average and No. 70 in kickoff return. It’s tough to complain, though, as they finished No. 7 in net field position.
