Vincent Taylor looks ahead to Bedlam

Big Vince got another block on Saturday, and he, like us, is already looking to the Big 12 title game.

Take a great opportunity, take advantage of this bye week to come in and watch tape. When the week comes of the game, be ready to prepare like we’re trying to win the Big 12 … It don’t get no sweeter than that. [NewsOK]

It certainly don’t.

OSU CAN RUN!

Mark Cooper on how Chris Carson ended the show in Ft. Worth.

He went left, lowered his shoulder and steamrolled TCU safety Nick Orr like he was made of cardboard. He kept going, looking for more until he ran through Julius Lewis without pulling back on the accelerator. The fact Oklahoma State led by four scores did not matter to Carson. Nor did it to the players on the OSU sideline, who gawked at Carson’s highlights as they watched on Amon G. Carter Stadium’s video boards.

Carson has been trying for two seasons to create those moments. Oklahoma State as a program has been trying for three years. “That’s how we used to finish games,” Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said. “That’s what we were known for around here for a long time.” [Tulsa World]

This is a delight to me. A real run game!

Spencer happy for defense

It has to be a relief for Spencer’s defense to match Yurcich’s offense for once.

Defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer said, “Just happy the guys can get recognized for that. Somebody’s going to say something good about ’em this week. I get tired of people talking bad about them.”

Some of the criticism Spencer and his guys have gotten over the years is unfair, but last season when they faltered down the stretch, it cost the Cowboys dearly. With two home games to finish the regular season, they had a chance to not only win the conference but also go to the College Football Playoff. [NewsOK]

Considering the situation and the circumstances, I thought it was one of the all-time great OSU defensive performances of the Gundy era (and probably beyond).

OU Hammers WVU

OU moved to 8-0 in Big 12 play with a big win in Morgantown.

After leading 41-7 early in the third quarter, the Sooners withstood a frenetic, late West Virginia comeback to hold on for a 56-28 victory Saturday night in Morgantown.

The performance wasn’t quite the emphatic playoff statement Oklahoma appeared to be on its way to making after it emptied the snowy Milan Puskar Stadium stands by the second quarter. That actually caused a traffic jam to envelop the venue before halftime. [ESPN]

The narratives:

Also, this.

Ogbah moves to DE permanently

Pretty interesting note here on E-Man.

After starting the season as an outside linebacker, then moving to defensive end, and then back to outside linebacker, the Browns this week permanently moved Ogbah to defensive end.

It’s a position which is more natural for the 23-year-old from Houston. The Browns drafted Ogbah in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft in April and No. 32 overall in part because they liked his ability to rush the passer. [NewsOK]

He never really struck me as a linebacker, but I also don’t know how the NFL works as well as college. Good to see him doing well in that horrendous situation. Shoutout to the fan who suggested to me Mason was throwing away Saturday’s game because he knew Browns scouts were there. Made me laugh.

One-five get live

Chris Lacy is a dog.

Among a crowd of reporters, No. 15 Chris Lacy acknowledged several questions and one comment.

Somewhere behind the journalists, cornerback Ramon Richards gripped the front of his chair and leaned back. “One-five get live,” Richards yelled. [O’Colly]

I have this picture in my head of Ramon running around to random teammates and making up rhymes for their numbers. This probably happens, right?

Budkes on their dad

Mark Cooper does a great job with this story on Brett and Alex Budke.

For the Budke children, they lost a father who never made them feel neglected despite his time-consuming job. He made it to their games whenever he could. He involved them in the program and the OSU family. He taught them lessons they still keep at heart today. If you’re going to do something, do it right and put all your effort into it. [Tulsa World]

It’s pretty cool to me that they have stayed in Stillwater even throughout the pain of the last five years. Hashtag family.

It’s OU week (or two weeks)

OSU coaches are already ready for Bedlam as well.

After Saturday’s squishing of the Horned Frogs, OSU offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich said: “Having an edge to you and being pissed off, I think there’s a lot of value in that. I think our guys are ticked. They’ve got something to prove still.”

Yurcich followed up by specifying he would rather his offense study the next two weeks than stew over 58-23. He figures Cowboys defenders are more apt to rage in response to the final score in Bedlam 2015. He might anticipate that happening, given OSU’s defensive intensity Saturday. [Tulsa World]

I’m here for the full two weeks of this. Bring me everything.

Does the CFB Playoff linger?

Robert Allen on whether OSU is a legit title contender.

In fact, you could call this the Cowboys most complete win of the season, their best performance, and you can now call the Cowboys a legitimate College Football Playoff contender, maybe even more of a contender than they were at this stage last year when the were 10-1 but coming off a butt kicking of a loss at home to Baylor. The record at 9-2 is not as good but then if you believe that Oklahoma State really won that game the MAC officials blundered away from them against Central Michigan then the Cowboys are 10-1. [Go Pokes]

We will see below that 538 gives OSU a slim chance as it stands right now, but I’m not convinced OSU isn’t one of the best four teams in the nation right now. That probably doesn’t matter, but nobody wants to play them.
