The PFB squad is headed off the internet for a few days. I am personally going to the lake with my family to read, hang with the kids and get away from my phone and computer. We will post a few things today and then be back at it on Monday. Hope you guys enjoy the bye weekend.

National Champs!

Oklahoma State is the 1945 national champion. [PFB]

Here’s the game that got us there. [PFB]

Boone’s reaction: “I was a big fan of that team. They had some real heroes on it. Those were great years for our athletic teams, including basketball and wrestling. I’m glad the football team is finally getting the recognition they earned on the field.” [NewsOK]

Neill Armstrong last December: “We may have been the best team in the country that year. We had a couple of All-Americans and a group of veterans who kept us in check. In practice, we scrimmaged every day. As hard as those scrimmages were, it’s a wonder that we had anything left for the games, but those scrimmages toughened us and made us better. We had a lot of older guys who had fought in the war and understood that you don’t win anything unless you do it as a team.” [ESPN]

The trophy has been in Stillwater for a while. [PFB]

This made me laugh.

This is also true.

Yes it is.

No it’s not.

Football News

New podcast: We interview Nathan Peterson and make our Mike Gundy Bingo cards. [PFB]

Glenn Spencer on scout teamer Melvin Gilliam: “I think that he’s a guy that just wants to be here. If he wasn’t playing football, Melvin would probably still be here going to school. It’s important to have people in your program that love Oklahoma State.” [okstate]

Midseason grades. First up: RBs. [PFB]

Why Mike Gundy is comfortable where OSU is at. [PFB]

Around the league

Big 12 will hold a press conference on Monday to announce … something. Here’s Chuck Carlton of the Dallas Morning News: “Sources confirmed Wednesday that pretty much all the options are on the table, including the possibility of football-only membership with Houston and BYU the most likely members. The sources also confirmed that expansion has gone from likelihood about six weeks ago to maybe a 1-in-3 chance.” [Dallas Morning News]

Not Big 12 but holy crap!

Recruiting News

Gonna leave this right here … Offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich is a good example as he will hit high schools and games on Thursday and Friday before heading back to Stillwater for a birthday party on Saturday for oldest son Jack. “We are going to have a magician there, so there will be a rabbit pulled out of a hat,” joked Yurcich. Oklahoma State is trying to grab the No. 7 CB prospect in Texas away from Baylor. [PFB]

On the Urban Meyer-Mike Gundy signing day disagreement. [PFB]

Hoops News

Pokes picked to finish seventh in the B12 this year. [PFB]

Durant’s just talking. And he’s not coming close to saying the right things. Every time Durant goes passive aggressive, he’s denting his own legacy. What Durant and Westbrook built in OKC — on the court and off, including state pride and civic self-esteem — was special. He should be proud of it. Instead, he seems the opposite. [NewsOK]

Westbrook’s reaction: “That’s cute.” [Up The Thunder]

This is terrific.
