Pokes in the Pros
David Glidden Says Biggest Difference Between College and NFL Is Detail
I asked David Glidden on Saturday at our live podcast what the biggest difference between college and the NFL was, and he gave me an answer I did not expect.
I’ve always thought the answer to this question was “speed.” Glidden, who was on the Atlanta Falcons for most of training camp and even impressed QB Matt Ryan, said it’s not speed.
“Attention to detail…the speed of the game is [more] different from high school to college than it was from college to pros,” said Glidden on Saturday.
“I think the attention to detail is what got me, in the fact that you can be a yard off in your route, in the wrong spot, and Matt Ryan, he’ll let you know about it, you know what I mean? You take one half step wrong on a route or a block or anything like that, you’re gonna hear about it …
The film study is absolutely a new world. We watch a lot of film in college, but you don’t watch near as much as you do for that level, and I wasn’t even in season for that.”
Fascinating stuff. You can listen to his entire answer at the 9:15 mark above.
