Despite Surgery, Mason Rudolph Expected Back for Sugar Bowl

QB1 is back!

Maybe!

We had heard that despite an injury, Mason Rudolph was expected to start Bedlam. However, this seems a little more straightforward. Mike Gundy told the Tulsa World No. 2 was expected back pretty soon and should be ready for OSU’s New Year’s Day bowl game against Ole Miss.

“I’m confident (that Rudolph will start in the bowl game). I feel pretty good about it,” Gundy told the Tulsa World. “He doesn’t have as severe an injury as a lot of guys (who have comparable injuries). I think he’ll be practicing in two weeks.

“I think (Rudolph) will rally enough where he can practice in a couple of weeks,” Gundy said. “We have J.W., and he’ll practice hard and practice well, and we’ll try to keep the same (routine) we’ve had all year. If it gets to the last week before the game (and Rudolph isn’t ready), then we go on down the road.”

He reiterated this in his press conference on Sunday and also noted that some other missing Pokes would probably be back for New Orleans.

It does appear that Rudolph is still in his walking boot (wait, is that Trevor Knight?!) but I’m glad Gundy thinks he’ll be back. I’m not sure I want to face Ole Miss’ defense with only J.W. (great as he is) and no backup plan after that.
