Dez Reflects On Crazy Weekend In Pittsburgh, Not Ready To Talk About Pops
Dez Bryant spoke for the first time publicly since his obscene display of football in Pittsburgh on Sunday helped the Dallas Cowboys get to 8-1 a day after his father passed away. The scene was an emotional one for those Cowboys on Sunday. Bryant, who got the game ball from Jason Garrett, reflected on that on Wednesday.
“Yeah, the game ball was special,” Bryant told DallasCowboys.com. “Of course, like I said, just goes to show you it’s not only a football team. It’s a family. It’s just something that we’ve been building here for a long time. It’s just exciting to see whenever you’ve got a guy, talking about myself, going through the situation I was going through, and those guys having my back and just keeping me lifted. It just made me excited.
“I felt a lot of support. They kept me happy. They refused to let me get myself down. I felt like I was peaceful for the most part. It’s normal; it’s my dad – somebody that I extremely loved who’s no longer here. With these guys, the great supporting cast that I have around me is just amazing.
“I really don’t want to talk about my dad,” Bryant added to the Dallas Morning News. “Not right now. I’m going to keep that personal.”
Also, I didn’t see the full Jason Garrett speech on Dez and his dad. Buckle up. It’s intense.
“Everybody’s got a piece of it, but I do want to recognize one guy,” said Garrett. “You know Dez Bryant lost his dad last night, and I don’t know if you watched that motherf***** play today, but he was off the charts.”
