Eberle, Maxwell Combine for First Perfect Game in OSU Softball’s History

The Cowgirls have done a lot of good under sixth-year coach Kenny Gajewski, but it’s not often a team does a first in program history.

Oklahoma State pitchers Carrie Eberle and Kelly Maxwell combined for the program’s first perfect game in the Cowgirls’ 5-0 victory against North Texas on Wednesday.

Eberle, who advanced to 9-0 on the season, got the start in the circle. She threw three innings where she retired all nine batters she faced and struck out two.

Maxwell, a sophomore, entered in the fourth. She retired the 12 batters she faced and struck out seven.

The duo retired the 21 North Texas batters on 88 pitches.

As for the Cowgirls’ runs, it was a good day for junior shortstop Kiley Naomi, who was 2-for-3 at the dish with a pair of RBIs.

Virginia transfer Hayley Busby hit her eighth home run of the season in the fifth inning. Busby is now tied with Georgia transfer Alysen Febrey for the team lead in round-trippers.

The No. 10 Cowgirls advanced to 24-4 on the season. They started the year 12-0. OSU starts its Big 12 slate this weekend with a trip to Lawrence to take on the Jayhawks.
