Five Best Quotes from Oklahoma State’s Loss to TCU

Published

on

Oklahoma State fell short in its Big 12 opener on Saturday against TCU, 44-31. The score, however, didn’t quite indicate just how far out of reach the game was for OSU was until a last-quarter surge.

Mason Rudolph, Mike Gundy and the gang did their best describing what went wrong in the aftermath of a stunning loss in Stillwater and where they turn from here.

Mason Rudolph on the big picture

“It’s really a minor hiccup in the grand scheme of things. I think this team’s got so much potential and a lot of leadership on both sides. It’s going to be something we look back and say hey, it was an adversity deal and it helped build us and make us stronger.”

TCU coach Gary Patterson on OSU

“They have a good football team. Good quarterback, good skill. To come here and beat them is hard to do .. We knew they were gonna make a surge. When they go fast, and Mason Rudolph gets hot, you gotta maintain him. You’re not gonna stop him. We changed more coverages than I have changed in a while.”

Mike Gundy on being outcoached

“We didn’t play very smart or very disciplined. And really, we got out-coached. I thought that they had better plans, and their players executed their plans better than we did. In looking at it from the outside without watching the tape, early in the game we made a couple decisions that weren’t very good and set us behind the eight ball.”

TCU safety Nick Orr on OSU’s receivers

“Oklahoma State has a ton of good receivers, but I felt like we were good too on our back end. We have a lot of experience back there, and people that have been doing it for a long time. That really helped out.”

Glenn Spencer on accountability

“We as coaches — and me, specifically — have to say we all own this. And we are gonna get a chance next week to make it a lot better.”
