We would probably be in better hands if OKC Dave took a crack at this post but I’m not totally sure he’s recovered from the Oregon game yet, so I’m going to have at it.

Bad atrocious from three

Here’s the 3P% of the six guys who took the most attempts:

Markel – 36%
Forte – 34%
Smart – 29%
Nash – 24%
Williams – 24%
Gardner – 13%

If you had “Markel will have a higher 3P% than Forte” at the beginning of the season in your office pool, congratulations, you win[1. Forte’s splits by month: Nov – 50%, Dec – 38%, Jan – 34%, Feb – 21%, Mar – 32%.]. Nash should never shoot a three again, Williams’ sample size was pretty small, and it sure seemed like Smart made more than 29%.

99 steals

Marcus Smart ended the year with 99 steals which tied Brooks Thompson’s school record of 99 set back in 1994. It also shattered the freshman record of 67 by Byron Eaton in 2006. Additionally, Smart had the 14th best assist year in school history with 139 and broke the freshman record of 104, also held by Eaton. He also led the country in steals per game at 3.0.

6.4%

This was Phil Forte’s turnover rate (turnovers divided by possessions), second best in the country behind only……yup, threegogglesBrady Heslip.

92/93

Phil Jurick had 92 fouls and 93 points on the year. Last year he had 73 fouls and 44 points.

Double figures

This isn’t really an amazing stat but since I just spent 30 minutes figuring it out, I’m going to include it.

53 teams had four guys average 10 or more points per game
Five teams had five guys average 10 or more points per game
One team had six guys average 10 or more points per game

OSU was in that first group and among those 53 teams that had four guys average double figures, the Cowboys checked in ninth in total points scored by those four guys (54.9 from Nash, Smart, Markel, and Forte).
