Five Things to Know as OSU Prepares for Big Road Test vs. Kansas State

Once again Oklahoma State enters its weekend matchup the higher-ranked team in both the AP and Coaches Polls, and once again, with a trip to Manhattan to face Kansas State, the No. 9 Cowboys are underdogs in a major showdown that could go a long ways toward determining the Big 12 title winner.

Saturday will mark the third consecutive week OSU has been an underdog and the second consecutive time it has gone on the road as a dog. In the last two weeks, OSU went 1-1, winning at home last Saturday and losing two weeks ago on the road to TCU.

But under Mike Gundy, OSU as road dogs has largely been a good omen. Since 2016 it is 6-7 straight up on the road as dogs, 4-5 since 2018 and 3-3 since 2020. Can they continue that positive trend with another tally in the win column Saturday?

We’ll find out soon enough. Here are five things to know ahead of Saturday.

1. OSU has won three of its last four road games. It has also won two of its last three times vs. Kansas State in games played in Manhattan.

2. Saturday’s game marks the 69th overall meeting between OSU and K-State (insert nice joke). OSU holds a 42-26 advantage all-time in the series and has won 19 of the 36 games played in Manhattan.

3. OSU has defeated Kansas State in nine of its last 13 meetings. Gundy is 9-5 in his career vs. K-State, while K-State coach Chris Klieman is 0-3 against Oklahoma State.

4. Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of every AP poll since October 3, 2021. That streak of 20 consecutive weeks of rankings is a school record, besting the previous record set in 2016-17.

5. A win Saturday would make OSU 7-1 on the season for a second consecutive season and the eighth time (!!) in the Mike Gundy era.
