Five Thoughts About the OSU Basketball Schedule
Between the rapidly-approaching football season and 130th workout-related video OSU’s basketball team posted on Twitter, the 2015-16 schedule went by last week with barely a whisper.
Let’s run it back, though, and take a look at what’s forthcoming for Travis Ford’s squad in the Big 12 next season. Here are all 18 games.
Sat., Jan 2 | TCU | ESPNews | TBA |
Tues., Jan. 5 | at Baylor | ESPN2 | 7 p.m. |
Sat., Jan. 9 | at West Virginia | ESPNU | 12 p.m. |
Wed., Jan. 13 | Oklahoma | ESPNU | 8 p.m. |
Sat., Jan. 16 | at Texas | ESPN2 | 5 p.m. |
Tues., Jan. 19 | Kansas | ESPN2 | 6 p.m. |
Sat., Jan. 23 | at Kansas State | ESPNU | 5 p.m. |
Wed., Jan. 27 | Baylor | ESPNU | 8 p.m. |
Wed., Feb. 3 | at Texas Tech | ESPNews | 6 p.m. |
Sat., Feb. 6 | Iowa State | ESPN / ESPN2 | 1 p.m. |
Mon., Feb. 8 | at TCU | ESPNU | 6 p.m. |
Sat., Feb. 13 | Kansas State | ESPNews | 12 p.m. |
Mon., Feb. 15 | at Kansas | ESPN | 8 p.m. |
Sat., Feb. 20 | Texas Tech | ESPNU | 8:30 p.m. |
Wed., Feb. 24 | at Oklahoma | ESPNU | 8 p.m. |
Sat., Feb. 27 | West Virginia | ESPNU | 5 p.m. |
Mon., Feb. 29 | at Iowa State | ESPNU | 6 p.m. |
Fri., March 4 | Texas | ESPN2 | 8 p.m. |
My thoughts…
1. TCU at home means we’ll be tied for first after the opening weekend. Right? Right?
2. Thankfully, the only bowl/playoff games that would coincide with any of this are the Cactus and Alamo Bowls. Wouldn’t want anything scheduled on January 11. Just in case. Then the football season empties right into OU at home and Kansas at home. A baptism.
3. Throw in Minnesota, Florida, Tulsa and Auburn in the non-conference portion of the schedule and this is actually a pretty good overall schedule. College hoops is mostly unwatchable but at least its unwatch-ability is  buoyed by matchups between big name teams!
4. At Kansas on Big Monday will be fun (for Kansas). Same for at Iowa State. Thankfully that one is on ESPNU so not everyone in the country will see it.
5. OKC Dave gave me an early look at the survey results and more people think OSU is going to make the tournament this year than did so this time last year. I have no idea why this is the case, and looking at the schedule, I’m even more perplexed. I tried to find the 9-10 wins needed to guarantee a tourney bid and I just can’t do it.
