Former Nebraska Offensive Lineman Grant Seagren Transferring to Oklahoma State
OSU adds a sought-after portal lineman.
The Cowboys have added another offensive lineman via the portal.
Formerly of Nebraska, Grant Seagren is set to transfer to Oklahoma State, according to On3’s Pete Nakos. Seagren was a 6-foot-6, 305-pound redshirt freshman for the Cornhuskers this past season, where he played 57 total snaps. He should have three seasons of eligibility remaining.
Seagren was a tight end and defensive lineman at the high school level. Coming out of Oakland-Craig High School in Nebraska, Seagren was a two-star recruit, according to 247Sports, which listed him as the No. 156 tight end in the class and the No. 24 player from the state of Nebraska. He caught seven passes for 186 yards and four touchdowns as a senior in 2022 while making 27 tackles, four tackles for loss and a sack. He was also a solid basketball player in high school, averaging 10.3 points and 8.5 rebounds a game as a senior.
Although he might’ve not been the most heralded high school prospect, Seagren has gotten some attention in the transfer portal. Over the past few weeks, Seagren announced offers to Washington State, Rutgers, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
He comes from an athletic family, as well. Seagren had an older brother who played three seasons of basketball at Chaminade and another who played on the South Dakota State football team and competed for the Jackrabbits track and field program.
Seagren is the seventh offensive lineman to transfer to OSU this offseason. He joins Kasen Carpenter (Tulsa), Lavaka Taukeiaho (Weber State), Louie Canepa (New Mexico State), Markell Samuel (App State), Tyler Brumfield (Snow College) and Bob Schick (Virginia Tech). It was necessary for the Cowboys to target the position in the portal because they lost most of their production from the past few seasons with guys like Joe Michalski, Dalton Cooper, Preston Wilson, Jake Springfield and Cole Birmingham all graduating.
Never say never, but this appears to be it for the Cowboys’ O-line via the portal, with new offensive line coach Cooper Bassett posting on social media that the position group “got one last piece.”
