Former Oklahoma State Wrestler Alex Dieringer Signifies Retirement From Competition

Former Oklahoma State wrestler Alex Dieringer placed his shoes in the middle of the mat, signifying his retirement.

Dieringer signified his intention of retirement after losing to Jordan Burroughs 7-4 in the challenge tournament finals at the United States Senior World Team Trials on Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska.

Even within a program as steep as Cowboy wrestling, Dieringer was one of the best to ever come from OSU. He was a three-time individual NCAA champion and one of only two OSU wrestlers to win the Dan Hodge Trophy, the Heisman of college wrestling, under John Smith. He also won four Big 12 titles.

Dieringer didn’t lose a match during his last two college seasons, finishing his Cowboy career at 133-4, the second-most career wins in OSU history behind only Smith.

After OSU, Dieringer pursued an international career. He won a gold medal at the United States National Championships in 2019. He also won silver there in 2018 and bronze in 2017.

Dieringer is currently on the coaching staff at Michigan.
