Beat the No. 9 team in the country on Tuesday, land a four-star prospect on Saturday — it’s been a solid week for Cowboy basketball.

Ben Ahmed, a center at Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State. The pledge comes just a few days after Ahmed was in Stillwater for an official visit. Recruiting services list Ahmed anywhere from 6-foot-9, 300 pounds to 6-10, 250. Rivals is the highest on him as a prospect, ranking him as the No. 54 player in all of the 2025 class.

Ahmed initially signed with Miami in the early period, but he got out of that when Hurricane coach Jim Larranaga stepped down in December, citing frustrations with the NIL landscape among the reasons for the sudden decision.

Ahmed is Putnam Science Academy’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder. PSA won the national prep title in the 2022-23 season and came runner-up this past season. He is originally from Kaduna State, Nigeria.

He has nearly a 7-foot-3 wingspan, according to 247Sports, and it’s evident on his film. 247Sports’ director of scouting Adam Finkelstein evaluated Ahmed in July, and here’s what he wrote about Ahmed’s upside:

“Where Ahmed thrives is on the glass. He takes up so much space, has such an extended reach, and magnetic hands. He’s a high-volume rebounder and consistently puts up double-doubles. He’s also a true scoring threat with his back to the basket. He maximizes his size and physicality to get to point-blank range whenever possible.” — [Finkelstein/247Sports]

Ahmed becomes the third player and the second big man to join the Cowboys’ 2025 class. Four-star sharpshooter Ryan Crotty and Sunrise Christian Academy center Mekhi Ragland signed with the Pokes in November. Ahmed and Ragland are both skilled, big-bodied bruisers. That appears to be what Lutz values at that position because it’s a similar mold to Abou Ousmane (6-10, 240).

Amhed’s commitment jumps OSU’s three-man class up to No. 28 in 247Sports’ team rankings. That’s good for fifth in the Big 12.
