Ryan Crotty, Mekhi Ragland Officially Sign with Oklahoma State
The Cowboys sign a pair as the early period opens.
The Cowboys might not be done with their 2025 recruiting class quite yet, but the opening of the early signing period saw a pair of prospects put pen to paper.
Oklahoma State officially announced the signings of four-star sharpshooter Ryan Crotty and three-star forward Mekhi Ragland on Wednesday.
Out of North Carolina by way of Miller School in Virginia, Crotty became the first high school pledge of the Steve Lutz era when he committed to the Cowboys on Sept. 6. Listed at 6-foot-5, Crotty set a Virginia high school record of 142 3-pointers on his way to a state title as a junior, and he did so while shooting 46% from deep. Crotty played with Boo Williams on Nike’s EYBL circuit this offseason, averaging 12.8 points a game at Peach Jam.
247Sports, ESPN and Rivals all listed Crotty as a four-star recruit, with 247Sports labeling him as the No. 76 player in the class. Before picking the Pokes, Crotty also had offers to Miami, Clemson, Butler, Virginia Tech, Iowa, Mississippi State, West Virginia and others.
“Ryan is a tireless worker who puts team goals ahead of his own,” said Lutz in OSU’s release. “Last year he set Virginia’s high school 3-point record, but what most impressed me was the way that he did it – within the flow of the offense for a state championship team. He’s been well-coached and has a real understanding of spacing and how to get himself open. Combine that with his size and a quick release, and you can see why he’s become one of the nation’s elite shooters. He’s also a wonderful person and student. We’re glad he’s decided to join us for his next chapter.”
Listed at 6-10, Ragland made his pledge to the Pokes on Oct. 8. Out of New Jersey, Ragland spent the past two seasons in Georgia but is with Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas for his senior season. With Team Huncho on Adidas’ 3SSB circuit this summer, Ragland averaged 11.1 points and 5.1 rebounds a game while shooting 60% from the field and 44% from 3. He’s a big body but has good footwork and nice touch.
On3 lists Ragland as the No. 123 player in the 2025 class. He is a three-star recruit per 247Sports, On3 and ESPN. Along with his OSU offer, Ragland announced offers to DePaul, East Carolina, Georgia State and others.
“We always want to play through our big men, and Mekhi gives us that ability,” said Lutz in OSU’s release. “He’s a strong and physical post presence who has an outstanding feel for the game, particularly as a passer. He has good hands, quick feet and a shooting touch that extends all the way out to the perimeter. Mekhi will benefit from a year with Coach Lindsted and the staff at Sunrise Christian Academy, and I’m excited to watch his continued progress. He’s a great kid with a bright future, and I’m glad it’s with us.”
This might be it for the Cowboys in the early period, but there is a chance to add another. Sebastian Williams-Adams, ranked as highly as the No. 39 player in the class, is set to announce his college destination on Sunday. OSU is in his top four along with Auburn, Vanderbilt and Purdue.
