The state of Oklahoma has continued to produce high-level basketball prospects as of late, and Mike Boynton had another example of that touring Oklahoma State this week.

Norman North guard Jeremiah Johnson took an unofficial visit to Stillwater on Thursday.

“Had a great time with the coaching staff,” Jeremy Johnson, Jeremiah’s father, told PFB. “They kind of showed us around their entire campus, school, showed us the in and outs of pretty much Oklahoma State basketball. Just gave us an experience, let us let us look inside the facilities. We got to have conversations with the coaches, let us know how they do things. We were able meet a lot of the players, talk to a lot of players. We were able to sit in and watch practice and workouts and things like that.

“It was great. My son enjoyed it. They were very welcoming to him, you know, treat us like family like they always have. It was great.”

Johnson is a four-star prospect, ranked as the No. 17 player in all of the 2023 class, according to 247Sports. That makes him the top prospect from Oklahoma. At 6-foot-4, 160 pounds, Johnson is also the No. 5 point guard in his class.

He played his freshman and sophomore high school seasons at Putnam City North, but will play at Norman North as a junior.

Boynton was the first to offer Johnson a scholarship, doing so last July. Johnson has since picked up offers from Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas and Tulsa.

Johnson has made a miraculous recovery after being the victim of a shooting in February. Johnson was in critical condition, according to The Oklahoman, and had surgery to remove two bullets from his body.

Just a few months removed from that scary situation, Johnson is back on the court.

“His recovery is going well,” Jeremy Johnson said. “He’s actually pretty much back on the court. He’s doing workouts and training and all that type of stuff. He’s back on the court playing. He’s pretty much now just continuing to get his conditioning and stuff back up. Conditioning, building the strength up just from not playing for a while. But as far as everything else, yeah he’s back on the court working out and things already.”
