The Cowboys offered him less than two weeks ago but they’ve apparently made a quick impression.

Rodney Gallagher, a four-star prospect out of Pennsylvania, reported an Oklahoma State offer on April 12, set a date for his Stillwater visit on April 13 and now has included the Cowboys in his Top 8 on April 24.

OSU made the cut along with Texas, Notre Dame, Oregon, West Virginia, Virginia Tech and in-state schools Penn State and Pitt.

The 5-foot-10 and 160-pounder is a four-star athlete according to 247’s Composite ranking which currently tabs him as the No. 104 recruit in the 2023 class overall, the No. 10 athlete and second-ranked prospect out of his state.

Gallagher is an ELITE-level athlete. He’s played both sides of the ball as a quarterback, wide receiver, cornerback and safety as well as returning punts. He’s also shown his versatility off the gridiron. Gallagher has Power 5 offers to play basketball. As a sophomore he averaged 19.4 points per game, five rebounds and 2.1 steals.

Gallagher told Rivals that he is planning official visits to Oklahoma State, Texas and Oregon this summer but that the June 15 trip to Stillwater is the only that’s been given a specific date.

“At Oklahoma State, the receivers coach and coach Gundy have been on me,” Gallagher told Rivals. “All the coaches have been hitting me up recently.”

The rest of the schools are all relatively much closer to his hometown of Uniontown, PA. West Virginia is actually the closest school to Gallagher with Morgantown lying just under 30 miles southwest across the Pennsylvania-West Virginia border. And WVU has taken advantage of that close proximity to an elite-level talent.

“I really like West Virginia head coach Neal Brown,” Gallagher said. “Their staff has been showing lots of love since my freshman year. They’ve been trying to build that relationship.”

The Cowboys currently have five commitments for the 2023 cycle but Gallagher would be the highest-ranked among the class should he choose the Cowboys. If he pledged today, he’d skyrocket the Pokes class ranking into the Top 20 with a team score boost from 74.07 to 97.29.

It doesn’t take a long look at his highlights to see what all the hype is about.
