Friday Night Highlights: Kabongo Delivers Helmet-Ejecting Hit, Griffiths’ Big Game
Kabongo sent a helmet flying.

There were some big-time performances from future Cowboys on the high school gridiron this weekend.
Here is a recap of how each of Oklahoma State’s 2024 commits played with stats and highlights provided when available.
David Kabongo / S / Byron Nelson (5-0) / Texas
David Kabongo delivered what had to have been the hit of the weekend in Byron Nelson’s 63-26 win against Timber Creek.
Kabongo met a Timber Creek ball carrier at the 5-yard line with enough force to send the running back’s helmet flying into the Friday night sky.
There weren’t stats for Byron Nelson on MaxPreps, but Kabongo’s highlights also reveal him forcing a fumble and making a handful of other tackles.
Byron Nelson has an open week before taking its unbeaten record to Haltom City on Oct 6.
Tre Griffiths / WR / Keller (5-0) / Texas
Tre Griffiths had his best game of the season in Keller’s 35-8 win against Keller Central.
Griffiths caught 10 passes for 192 yards and a pair of scores.
On the year, Griffiths has 19 catches for 360 yards and three touchdowns.
Keller has the week off before a big game against Southlake Carroll on Oct. 5.
Temerrick Johnson / Edge / Midlothian Heritage (5-0) / Texas
Temerrick Johnson and Midlothian Heritage remained unbeaten after clobbering Joshua 56-10.
Johnson was credited with four tackles and a tackle for loss in the win.
After an open week, Midlothian Heritage hosts Mansfield Summit on Oct. 5.
Rodney Fields / RB / Del City (3-0) / Oklahoma
Rodney Fields got to take it easy in Del City’s 73-0 shellacking of East Central.
Fields had 39 yards and two touchdowns on just seven carries.
The Eagles travel Friday to McAlester.
Armstrong Nnodim / DL / Horn (3-2) / Texas
Mesquite Horn dropped a close one to unbeaten North Forney this weekend, falling 20-16.
Armstrong Nnodim was still as active as ever, though, finishing with seven tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two quarterback hurries.
Only five games into his senior season, Nnodim already has 10 sacks and 22.5 tackles for loss.
Horn plays away at Rockwall on Friday.
Willie Nelson / DB / Longview (4-1) / Texas
Willie Nelson and the Longview Lobos boosted their win streak to four games this weekend after besting Lancaster 52-35.
Nelson had his second interception in as many weeks in the win.
Longview has a week off before traveling to Forney on Oct. 6.
Josh Ford / TE / Stillwater (2-2) / Oklahoma
Stillwater rolled past U.S. Grant 76-6.
There aren’t stats for the game on MaxPreps, but Josh Ford made plays on both sides of the ball, per his highlights, recording a pair of receptions.
The Pioneers host Booker T. Washington on Friday.
Jonathan Agumadu / LB / McKinney (5-0) / Texas
McKinney kept its unbeaten start going with a 42-7 win against Boyd.
Jonathan Agumadu returned a fumble for a touchdown and was also credited with three tackles and a sack.
McKinney plays Friday at Braswell.
Luke Webb / DL / Deer Park (4-1) / Texas
Luke Webb’s Deer Park Deer fell for the first time this season, losing to Dobie 38-35.
Deer Park didn’t have stats on MaxPreps, but Webb uploaded a highlight of a tackle for loss.
The Deer have an open week before an Oct. 5 game at Pasadena.
Landyn Cleveland / S / Mansfield Legacy (1-4) / Texas
Mansfield Legacy fell to Skyline 35-16.
Legacy didn’t have defensive stats on MaxPreps, but Cleveland’s highlights show him making a handful of plays at corner.
The Bronocos have an open week before hosting DeSoto on Oct. 6.
Gunnar Wilson / LB / Melissa (5-0) / Texas
Gunnar Wilson and the Melissa Cardinals continued their winning ways with a 59-28 win against Terrell this weekend.
There were no stats for the game on MaxPreps.
Melissa has an open week before hosting Poteet on Oct. 6.
Caleb Hackleman / OL / Pleasant Grove (5-0) / Texas
Caleb Hackleman and the Pleasant Grove Hawks remain unbeaten with a 45-0 win against Paris.
The Hawks are averaging 51 points a game in their past three contests.
Pleasant Grove travels to Gilmer after an open week.
Chauncey Johnson / OL / Lonoke (2-2) / Arkansas
Chauncey Johnson’s Lonoke Jackrabbits got back in the win column with a 36-14 win against Riverview.
The Jackrabbits ran for 195 yards on 6.3 yards per carry.
Lonoke plays Harding Academy on Friday.
