Friday Night Highlights: Mafi, Tonga Join Cowboys’ Class, Stillwater’s Win Streak Continues

After a huge win on the weekend, the Cowboys got a huge boon to their 2024 class Sunday night with the additions of Nuku Mafi and Semisi Tonga out of West High School in Salt Lake City.

Here is a look at how Oklahoma State’s 2024 commits are doing in their senior seasons of high school ball, with stats and highlights provided when available.

Nuku Mafi, Semisi Tonga / OL / Salt Lake City West (6-3) / Utah

The Cowboys’ two newest commits played on Wednesday, according to MaxPreps, where West High School picked up a 31-24 win against Brighton. After starting the year 0-2, the West Panthers have now won six of their past seven.

Behind Mafi and Tonga, West’s quarterback threw for 200 yards and wasn’t sacked, and the Panthers’ rushing attack ran for 293 yards on seven yards a carry. Mafi was credited with four pancake blocks and six tackles in the game.

Here are highlights from Mafi’s season thus far:


Josh Ford / TE / Stillwater (5-2) / Oklahoma

Stillwater’s win streak increased to five games when the Pioneers beat Bartlesville 14-10 this weekend.

Josh Ford had a pair of catches for 32 yards in the game. He also made seven tackles, including a pair of sacks as a defender.

The Pioneers host Putnam City West on Thursday.


Rodney Fields / RB / Del City (6-0) / Oklahoma

Del City clobbered Tulsa Memorial 69-0 this past weekend to remain unbeaten.

Stats aren’t on MaxPreps as of writing, but Hudl reveals that OSU commit Rodney Fields had a 49-yard touchdown run in the game.

Fields and the Eagles travel Thursday to Glenpool.


Willie Nelson / DB / Longview (6-1) / Texas

After a Week 1 loss, the Longview Lobos have rattled off six wins in a row with their most recent being a 63-0 bashing of North Mesquite.

Nelson had an interception that he returned for a touchdown in the game to go with a tackle and 37 punt return yards. That was his third interception of the season.

The Lobos take their winning streak to McKinney North on Friday.


Temerrick Johnson / Edge / Midlothian Heritage (7-0) / Texas

Temerrick Johnson’s Midlothian Heritage Jaguars survived an overtime scare against Ennis this past weekend, winning 38-35.

Johnson had a pair of tackles in the game, per MaxPreps.

Heritage hosts Corsicana on Friday.


Gunnar Wilson / LB / Melissa (7-0) / Texas

Melissa beat Denison 40-14 on Friday to remain unbeaten.

There weren’t stats on MaxPreps, but Wilson shared a highlight via Hudl of him making a tackle off the edge.

The Cardinals host Greenville on Friday.


David Kabongo / S / Byron Nelson (7-0) / Texas

A pair of future Cowboys met in Trophy Club, Texas, as David Kabongo’s Byron Nelson Bobcats routed Tre Griffiths’ Keller Indians 67-3.

Byron Nelson didn’t have any stats on MaxPreps, but Kabongo uploaded a quick highlight of a tackle.

The Bobcats travel to Keller Central on Thursday.


Tre Griffiths / WR / Keller (5-2) / Texas

In the other side of that matchup, Tre Griffiths’ Keller squad dropped to 5-2.

He didn’t record a catch in the game, according to MaxPreps.

Keller hosts Fossil Ridge on Friday.


Jonathan Agumadu / LB / McKinney (6-1) / Texas

The McKinney Lions’ unbeaten run came to an end this weekend, falling to Allen 31-7.

OSU commit Jonathan Agumadu had five tackles in the loss, according to MaxPreps.

McKinney plays Friday at Rock Hill.


Landyn Cleveland / S / Mansfield Legacy (1-6) / Texas

Mansfield Legacy continues to struggle this season, falling 38-12 this past weekend to Waxahachie.

There weren’t defensive stats listed on MaxPreps, but Cleveland’s highlights show him making a handful of tackles from corner.

It was also a big week for Cleveland off the field, as he picked up an offer to Alabama before returning to Stillwater to watch the Cowboys beat Kansas.


Armstrong Nnodim / DL / Horn (4-4) / Texas

Armstrong Nnodim’s Horn Jaguars fell to .500 this past weekend after a 10-7 loss to Tyler Legacy.

Nnodim was credited with six tackles, a tackle for loss and a quarterback hurry.

The Jaguars host Rockwall-Heath on Friday.

Chauncey Johnson / OL / Lonoke (3-4) / Arkansas

Chauncey Johnson’s Lonoke Jackrabbits fell back below .500 after a 45-13 loss to Heber Springs.

Lonoke hosts Bald Knob (excuse me?) on Friday.


Luke Webb / DL / Deer Park (6-1) / Texas

The Deer Park Deer picked up a dominant 45-14 win against Pasadena Memorial this past weekend.

There were no stats on MaxPreps as of writing.

The Deer travel Friday to Channelview.


Caleb Hackleman / OL / Pleasant Grove (7-0) / Texas

Caleb Hackleman’s Pleasant Grove Hawks are still unbeaten after toppling Pittsburg 63-7.

The Hawks host Liberty-Eylau on Friday.
