Going back to the Cowboys’ infamous 2011 double-overtime loss, OSU has taken nine of 11 off the Cyclones with the only losses coming in 2018 and 2021.
The series’ most recent meeting saw Spencer Sanders come off the bench and save the day. OSU was down 14-10 to start the fourth quarter before Sanders threw a touchdown to Jaden Nixon to give OSU a lead. Tanner Brown then hit a 40-yard field goal to give the Cowboys a 20-14 win.
The last meeting in Ames was another infamous game for the Pokes — being their only regular season loss of the 2021 season. Was Brennan Presley stopped short of that first down? The officials said he was, and thus, Oklahoma state fell 24-21.
The Cowboys’ last win in Ames came in 2019. That game saw the OSU defense pick off Brock Purdy three times in the fourth quarter. Chuba Hubbard ran for 116 yards and a touchdown while Tylan Wallace had 131 receiving yards and perhaps the most impressive touchdown of his career that saw him truck a pair of defenders and stiff arm a man into oblivion en route to a 71-yard score.
