Gundy: ‘You Forget How Many People Have Come Through our Athletic Department’

Mike Gundy made a rare appearance for a creature of his nature this time of year (most mullet-wearing CFB coaches are taking the air boat on the bayou at the end of May) at the Coaches vs. Cancer golf outing at Stillwater Country Club recently. He talked about the star power in attendance and how impressive the collection of folks who have rolled through Stillwater actually is. You forget, he noted, all the names.

“What’s interesting here is the lineup of celebrities that we have playing in this,” said Gundy. “You forget how many people have come through Oklahoma State University and our athletic department and have been so successful in all different areas until you get them all out here.

“You forget about guys like Tom Holliday and Mickey Tettleton — he’s got 255 home runs in the big leagues. It’s really a great event for a terrific cause. Dave Hunziker and the people … who work with Coaches vs. Cancer.”

He also mentions technology and how it relates to cancer (which is the most Gundy thing ever).

“We try to remind our players of how grateful we should be and how lucky they are to be in a situation where they get an education and can be part of a team. Every day they’re healthy enough to play a game they love to play. We have great young men on our team who understand that.”
