Some pretty intriguing stats from Wednesday night including one of Marcus’ best stat lines ever.

A boring first half turned into statistical intrigue by the end of the game on Wednesday night against Texas. Let’s take a look…

1. I was shockingly not fouled by a Texas player while writing this sentence. More players committed fouls for Texas than played for Oklahoma State. Truly remarkable.

2. This is not a good number if you’re an OSU fan. And it will be repeated many times by many teams.

3. This is an excellent number if you’re an OSU fan. And it will be repeated many times this year against many teams.

4. I think 40% is a good benchmark for OSU this year to determine whether or not it had a good game defensively. Anything below that is really good, anything higher isn’t ideal. I think teams are going to have a bit of an inflated shooting percentage against the Cowboys because of how many easy looks they’ll get on putbacks. And no, I have no idea how KSU beat OSU by shooting only 36%.

5. I told OKC Dave today how much I love a player’s points being twice his field goal attempts (the Kevin Durant line, if you will).

6. JUNKYARD! He needs to pick it up a little on rebounding, though. It’s a good sign, however, that he was able to swat four shots and only commit three fouls. It’s actually kind of amazing given that he was literally running away from guys with wide open layups as to not pick up that fourth foul.

7. The line of the year (and probably his best ever). OKC Dave asked me if I liked this line or his one against Memphis (39 points, 4 boards, 4 assists, 5 steals, 2 blocks, 3 turnovers) better and I said definitely this one. Only 24 points (“only”) but 11 boards (from a PG!), no turnovers, only 11 shots (!), and zero flops (that I remember). That’s All-American stuff.

8. Perfect. Those Forte threes feel massive — probably because he’s the only guy you really trust out there. Markel too, I guess, but he doesn’t live out there like Forte and he needs to get to the foul line by driving to the bucket, anyway.

9. This 54% in the second half business was mostly because of how great the defense played.

10. Imagine how much OSU could crush teams with a better interior presence.

11. This goes hand-in-hand with points off turnovers, which I said after the Kansas State game, should be 20 a game. Well done here.

I wasn’t very excited after Wednesday’s game but these numbers are encouraging. Everybody is settling into a role and even though Nash had a poor performance against, OSU still won handily. To be continued…
