Instacap: Oklahoma State Handles Houston Baptist

Oklahoma State throttled a really, really bad Houston Baptist team on Sunday, 101-74, inside a mostly empty Gallagher-Iba Arena.

OSU shot an efficient 48 percent from the floor and limited HBU to 39 percent in the same category, as the defense under Boynton again had a strong day on Sunday by netting 20 points off 15 HBU turnovers. The Cowboy defense proved to be a game-changer early in the game and throughout as their length clearly affected a lesser-talented Huskies team.

Kendall Smith and Thomas Dziagwa lead the high-scoring affair with 16 a piece. Cam McGriff added 14 and Jeff Carroll had 13 of his own in a contest lead by the Pokes for 39 of a possible 40 minutes.

Despite a fairly uneven performance from Carroll, who went just 3 for 8 from the floor, the Cowboys rolled behind a solid team shooting from behind the arc. As a unit, OSU hit 10 of its 22 3-point attempts. Five OSU players hit from beyond the arc and seven players finished with 9 or more points, including Davon Dillard, who made his season debut and had 9 points and 3 rebounds.

Altogether it was a mostly tidy win for the Pokes, but there were some areas of weaknesses against the Huskies, namely sloppy guard play, which resulted in 17 turnovers. OSU also surrendered 8 steals to one of the lower tier teams not only in the Southland Conference, but in the country.

OSU will get a shot at cleaning up some of the mistakes on Wednesday as it welcomes Austin Peay to GIA for one of the last non-conference tuneups before it faces the gauntlet beginning with Wichita State on Dec. 9.
