Instacap: Oklahoma State Suffers Historically Lopsided Loss at No. 6 Oregon
Oregon’s offense spent most of the first half running what amounted to an open practice as the Ducks moved the ball seemingly at will, putting Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy in the largest halftime deficit of his tenure (38 points).
Oregon kept its foot firmly on the gas until pulling starting quarterback Dante Moore with 7:16 left in the third, which was more than enough to secure a 69-3 win. This marked Oklahoma State’s largest loss since 1907. The Cowboys’ biggest defeat of all time came by 75 points to Oklahoma in 1904.
Moore finished 16-of-21 passing the ball for 266 yards and three touchdowns. He also finished with 11 rushing yards on two carries.
Oregon outgained the Cowboys 312-144 on the ground, while averaging 8.4 yards per carry to OSU’s average rush of only 3.4.
Quarterback Zane Flores finished the first start of his career 7-of-19 for 67 yards with two pick-sixes thrown on back-to-back plays in the final minutes of the third quarter.
If there were any bright spots for the Cowboys (1-1) on Saturday, they weren’t impactful enough, but linebacker Bryan McCoy Jr. picked up where he left off last week, recording a team-high nine tackles, including 0.5 for for loss in a game that saw the Cowboys finish with three total tackles for loss.
Running back Trent Howland also put together a decent showing in his 2025 debut, rushing for 31 yards on six carries to finish with a team-best 5.2 average. Howland was seen in a boot during the latter portion of the game, adding him to a growing list of potential injury concerns.
Oklahoma State now has two weeks to prepare for Tulsa (1-0), which visits Stillwater on Friday, Sept. 19. The Cowboys will have to wait another year for the chance to avenge Saturday’s loss to Oregon, which makes the trip to Boone Pickens Stadium on Sept. 12, 2026.
