Instant Recap: Oklahoma State Blows Out Tulsa 45-10
The Cowboys start Big 12 play against Utah next.
The Cowboys are still perfect heading into Big 12 play.
After two competitive matchups to start the season, Oklahoma State blew out Tulsa 45-10 on Saturday at H.A. Chapman Stadium in front of a mostly orange-wearing crowd. Next, the Cowboys will welcome Big 12 preseason favorite and newcomer Utah to Stillwater for the Utes’ first true Big 12 matchup at 3 p.m. Saturday.
But OSU was obviously focused on Tulsa before looking too far ahead. The Cowboys started the morning with a 16-play drive that ended with a one-yard touchdown pass to Brennan Presley, who was essentially returning home as a Bixby product and facing off against his younger brother on the other sideline. Kasey Dunn force fed Presley in his homecoming, as he touched the ball five times in that first possession — four receptions for 19 yards plus the TD and a 22-yard rush. Presley left home with 46 receiving yards on seven catches after being halted the rest of the day.

Presley’s quarterback, Alan Bowman, was the Tulsa King, though. He threw for 396 yards and five touchdowns while completing 77% of his passes.
Bowman’s second touchdown pass was an eight-yarder to De’Zhaun Stribling — his first of the season. He then found Talyn Shettron sprinting up the sideline for a 78-yard score. It was also Shettron’s first TD of the season and only his second catch after an 11-yard reception against Arkansas last week.

Then Bowman’s fourth score of the day was the first of his career for freshman tight end Josh Ford, who caught an 18-yard TD after streaking up the middle of the field. Ford, from Stillwater, has been the only true freshman listed on OSU’s two-deep depth chart this season.

The Pokes went into the locker room with a 28-0 lead after Bowman’s four-TD half. That half alone was the most touchdowns Bowman has thrown as a Cowboy. The closest TU got to scoring in the half was a shanked 44-yard field goal in its first drive.
Things slowed down in the second half but only briefly as OSU failed to score in its first possessions of the half after being unsuccessful on a fourth-down attempt on TU’s 40-yard line. But then Bowman to Stribling happened again, this time for 63 yards as Stribling outran TU’s defense. Stribling put up 174 receiving yards plus the two scores in his breakout game. He tied Presley for the most receptions on the team with seven.
Bowman’s only mistake of the day came when he threw a leaping interception to Jehlen Cannady in OSU territory. The defense had Bowman’s back, though, as Cam Smith picked off Kirk Francis four plays later. Smith returned it for 51 yards to give the Cowboys the ball on TU’s 29. The Pokes capitalized with three points thanks to a 43-yarder from Logan Ward, making the count 38-0 with 1:53 left in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter meant the end to Bowman’s day after Garrett Rangel took over. Indiana transfer Trent Howland also came in at running back then. But even with its stars on the bench, OSU still finished the drive in the end zone. Going for it on 4th-and-Goal from the one in a goalline formation, Rangel pitched the ball to Sesi Vailahi, who took it outside and into pay dirt.
The Golden Hurricane then finally scored 10 in the fourth quarter to ruin OSU’s shutout — a 43-yard field goal and a nine-yard run from Stephen Kittleman, who was the fourth QB of the game for TU.
