Instant Recap: Oklahoma State Comes Back to Beat Arkansas in OT 39-31
The Pokes survived.
This win just seemed to mean more for the Cowboys.
It was an abysmal start for Oklahoma State on Saturday, but that didn’t seem to matter in a 39-31 double-overtime win against the SEC’s Arkansas at a striped Boone Pickens Stadium.
The game essentially reset in the fourth quarter with both teams tied 21-21 with 9:37 left, then again as they went to overtime. The Cowboys broke the first tie when Brennan Presley took the ball in motion, then ran it around the edge and into the end zone for a three-yard touchdown to put OSU up 28-21 with 5:13 left. It was OSU’s first lead all day.

But only 72 seconds later, the score was tied again thanks to Bixby product Luke Hasz’s 43-yard TD reception.
Logan Ward then snapped that tie with a 38-yard field goal with 55 seconds left. That was too much time, though, as Kyle Ramsey made a 45-yarder as time expired for Arkansas to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Arkansas got the ball first and missed a field goal, giving OSU a chance to win with any kind of score on its possession. But Ward missed a 41-yarder to keep the game going to a second OT.
The Cowboys immediately got the ball back, and finally for the first time all day, Ollie Gordon made a play with a 12-yard touchdown run. Forced to go for two, it was Gordon again, this time catching a pass from Alan Bowman to put OSU up 39-31. The defense then came through and held Arkansas on a 4th-and-1 to secure the comeback and improve OSU to 2-0.
Arkansas started the game up 14-0 after reaching the end zone on its second and third possessions. First, running back Ja’Quinden Jackson ran in a five-yard score. He then capped his team’s next drive the exact same way. Jackson finished with three touchdowns after also scoring in the second quarter.
After OSU struggled with giving up big plays last week against South Dakota State — which was also an issue last season — the Hogs had seven plays of 15 or more yards in the first quarter alone. Arkansas finished the game with 20 such plays.
The Cowboys finally not only stopped Arkansas but scored their first points of the game with 8:50 left in the first half when Kale Smith picked off Taylen Green and returned it for a 73-yard TD.

Collin Oliver forced the pressure that ultimately led to the interception. Oliver was injured on the play, though, and never returned. ESPN reported during the broadcast that Collin had X-rays on his lower right leg. He was later seen on the sideline with a boot on that foot and was wearing street clothes while using crutches.
As Smith tallied 73 yards on the defensive score, the OSU offense had 77 yards total in the first half as the Cowboys trailed 21-7 at halftime. With reigning Doak Walker winner Ollie Gordon in the backfield, OSU had only 13 rushing yards at the break while averaging three yards a play, compared to eight for Arkansas.
Things started to flip for OSU in the second half with Bryan Nardo’s defense halting the Razorbacks and Kasey Dunn’s group moving the ball down the field. The offense fluttered in the red zone, though, getting held to a pair of field goals after back-to-back trips deep into Arkansas territory.
The Cowboys’ offense wasn’t actually responsible for a point until there was 9:37 left in the game. Presley took a pass from behind the line of scrimmage into the end zone for a seven-yard score. That was enough to get OSU even, though, after Bowman connected with De’Zhaun Stribling to tie the game, 21-21.
Who else but BP for the TD 😤
