Oklahoma State came up short on Monday night, falling to 2-3 in conference play after a 73-69 loss to Baylor.

The Bears filled it up from 3 early and often, making 11 of 14 triples (79 percent!) in the first half, led by King McClure (6-of-7). The Cowboys were no slouch from deep either, nailing a solid, albeit less impressive, 6-of-14 from beyond the arc led by Lindy Waters who made all three of his deep attempts before intermission.

Both teams came back to earth in the final frame, but the Cowboys’ well ran dry.

OSU went through a drought from the field of seven and a half minutes from the 8:30 mark to the 0:59 what was broken when a Curtis Jones putback layup pulled the Pokes to within 67-66. Jones was the only member of the home team to make a field goal from the last 14-plus minute mark until Cam McGriff’s late 3 with three seconds remaining.

It Was Over When…

Down 3 with 30 seconds left, OSU did not chose to foul, instead letting the Bears push their lead to 5. That quick 3-pointer by McGriff pulled the Pokes within 2, but a successful inbound to Makai Mason and subsequent free throw makes put a fork in this one 73-69.

Player of the Game: Curtis Jones

Jones followed up his 15-point game in Morgantown by leading all Cowboys with 18 points in 18 minutes on 13 shots (4 of 8 from 3). He also chipped in two rebounds, an assist and two steals.

What’s Next: OSU heads to Iowa State on Saturday at 5 p.m.
