The same thing happened again.

TCU beat Oklahoma State 38-13 on Saturday night in Fort Worth for the Cowboys’ seventh loss in a row. It’s OSU’s longest losing streak since 2000, when Bob Simmons was fired at the end of the season. And at 3-7 with only two games left, Mike Gundy’s bowl streak will also come to an end after 18 years.

The Cowboys started the game down 24-0 at halftime after failing to score in the first half. The offense was hindered by turnovers as OSU gave the ball up in two of its five possessions. Ollie Gordon fumbled and Alan Bowman threw an interception for the ninth straight game. Meanwhile, TCU put points on the board in five of its six possessions in the first half. Even when the Horned Frogs didn’t score, they still reached OSU’s 26-yard line before missing a field goal.

Gordon finally got the Cowboys into the end zone on their first drive of the second half with a two-yard run. It was the first time this season that OSU scored a touchdown in the third quarter against a Big 12 opponent. Bowman’s pass to Brennan Presley was incomplete, though, so OSU’s two-point conversion attempt was unsuccessful and made the count 24-6.

The touchdown started somewhat of a scoring frenzy, as TCU immediately answered with an 11-play TD drive that ended with Cam Cook’s second rushing score of the night. The Cowboys then also stormed back to the end zone on a 15-play, 94-yard drive. Bowman found De’Zhaun Stribling in the corner of the end zone for an eight-yard TD. This time, the Pokes settled to just kick it through, down 31-13.

But only two plays later, TCU was back in the purple paint after Jordyn Bailey took a reverse for a 59-yard TD, the longest play of the game. Overall, the Cowboys gave up 12 plays of more than 15 yards as TCU put up 468 total offensive yards. Coming into the week averaging 102.8 rushing yards a game, TCU ran for 175 yards on Saturday while averaging 6.3 a carry.

The Cowboys did hold TCU on its next possession, forcing the Horned Frogs’ first punt of the game with 5:46 left. After that, freshman Maealiuaki Smith went in at quarterback for OSU. Bowman finished 19-of-29 for 141 yards with a touchdown and interception. Smith, on his only drive, led the Cowboys all the way to TCU’s 24 before throwing a pick.

At this point, the only thing for OSU fans to look forward to is Brennan Presley, who during the fourth quarter became the Cowboys’ all-time leader in career receptions with his 294th catch. After a bye week, OSU’s next outing will be Presley’s final game at Boone Pickens Stadium when the Pokes host Texas Tech on Nov. 23 for Senior Day.
