Introducing a New Staff Writer at Pistols Firing

Published

on

As we continue to grow into the future here at PFB, we have recently made an addition to our writing team. Phillip Slavin has joined our growing group of staff writers, and you can read one of his first pieces here about which teams Oklahoma State should schedule in the non-conference hereYou can also follow him on Twitter here. Slavin is going to help Kyle Boone with recruiting and write a little football, a little hoops and do some work on Pokes in the pros.

I’ve been an admirer of Slavin’s work from afar for a while, and one week in, he’s already proven himself to be a terrific writer and thinker for our team.

Shout out to all of you who have contributed to our site thus far (we’re up to 135 already!) Your help there will allow us to continue to make these kinds of hires and keep providing the high-quality #content you’ve come to expect.

I’ll let Phillip introduce himself.

Phillip Slavin

I’m a 32-year-old former news producer now working as a content specialist for a small marketing and advertising firm in Searcy, Arkansas where I live with my wife. I also run the town website.

I fell in love with writing in college. I, like most, hated writing in high school. In college, I had a Comp 1 professor at Oklahoma State named Britton Gildersleeve who helped me learn to love writing.

My freshman year was also when my blood turned orange. I didn’t have a particular collegiate connection due to the fact that my parents both graduated from Northeastern State in Tahlequah and weren’t what I would call sports fans.

Not that Dad doesn’t watch college football these days, when he’s not on the golf course, but growing up we weren’t a sports family. That’s why in 2003-2004 as a student in Stillwater, when the Cowboys went on their run to the Final Four with Tony Allen (still my favorite former Cowboy), John Lucas, the Graham brothers, Bobik and WeatherSPPPOOOOON, I fell in love with everything OSU.

Now I bleed orange in a sea of Razorback red, with as much Cowboy memorabilia as I can fit into my office.

After more than a year writing with CRFF, I am excited to be part of the PFB team! To get the opportunity to do something I love, writing, about something I love, OSU athletics… who could ask for anything better?

Not me!
