James Washington Named to ESPN Midseason All-America Team

Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington was named to ESPN’s midseason All-America team, released on Monday. He was the only Cowboy player recognized on the team, and one of six named to the squad from the Big 12.

It’s quite an accomplishment for Washington, who is part of arguably the most talented position group in the country, to stand head-and-shoulders above the rest of his teammates. The numbers are staggeringly good in his favor, which is why the Worldwide Leader has officially tabbed him as the favorite to win the Biletnikoff Award as well.

The Pokes’ wide receiver depth is almost as glorious as Mike Gundy’s mullet, but everyone knows who leads the group. Washington has touchdown catches in four of five games, four games of at least 120 receiving yards and receptions in 37 consecutive games. The big-play numbers are staggering as he has averaged at least 24 yards per catch in four games. Oh, and he hasn’t dropped a single pass when targeted. Washington is the clear favorite for the Biletnikoff Award. [ESPN]

Oklahoma had three players named to the midseason All-America team in Baker Mayfield, tackle Orlando Brown, and LB Obo Okoronkwo. Texas free safety DeShon Elliott was also named to the team, as was WVU receiver David Sills.

Here’s a breakdown of midseason All-American players by conference (the Big 12’s not dead yet, folks!)
